Don't punch a British kid, the queen'll come after you.

Because when they were built that was modern architecture.

Yup.

Because post-modern designs are usually ugly as hell.

I wish the university I went to used classical architecture. Instead we have "modern architecture" (well, modern for the 70s anyway) that looks like it was pulled straight out of Soviet Russia.

Classical architecture remains just that, classic. "Modern architecture" will eventually look dated.

Lol, the older buildings at my university have that look too.

The new ones have a nice modern look, though.

Colleges carry prestige when they have been around a while or are considered "old". I mean, look at the founding dates of some Ivy Leagues:

Harvard: 1636
Yale: 1701
Brown: 1764

New construction and newly formed colleges try to appeal to stigma that the older the college, the better it is. Having classical architecture mimics that.

My alma mater has a Spanish Renaissance-style theme to its architecture. I wasn't a big fan of it at the time, but I'm starting to like its look.

Lol

Most likely to symbolize that education and learning are connected to the scholars and thinkers of the Greek and Romans.

Fine, because when they were built that was a popular style

Because post-modern designs are usually ugly as hell.

Why not just stick with modern then?

What is "modern"?

Is practically every walkway and building being composed entirely of red brick considered classic architecture?

My university has prison architecture. I wish it looked classical.
