Don't judge a book by its cover, unless it has bacon on the cover, then it is a good book.

Alright so I finally got around to purchasing this DLC. I was beyond excited because Dawnguard and Hearthfire were so amazing. Having not played Morrowind I was not as nostalgia happy as some people were.

Solstheim: Solstheim is interesting from the beginning, this DLC being much larger than Dawnguard I was excited to explore this place. However I was not expecting just how large Solstheim was. While it is smaller than Skyrim, it offers a variety of regions most of which are covered in ash. The creatures native to Solstheim are equally as interesting, the spiders, Lurkers, and those giant floating things.

What did disappoint me however was the large amounts of Nordic ruins and draugr. I know the empire controlled Solstheim for a while, yet there are no Imperial buildings only nordic and some structures native to it.

Main Quest: Where to begin? Dragonborn's main quest definitely felt rushed and much shorter than Dawnguard. In Dawnguard the developers took time to get us emotionally invested in Serana and what was happening in her life. In Dragonborn, players are quickly thrust at you with very little time to develop any sort of emotion for them.

Miraak and friends: the big bad guy had so much potential. Aside from a few moments where he steals a dragon soul from you or a transition scene you don't really know why you are fighting him. Remember that guy who gave you the Oghma Infinium? Yeah well he is back and I must say they did an amazing job with his plain of Oblivion and Hermaeus Mora. Hermaeus Mora was given a new form and towards the end of the story he stopped talking in that slow voice, but instead became angry and revealed his true power.

Overall the story was very good, it just felt rushed.

Weapons and armor: The new weapons and armor in Dragonborn are very well done but hard to obtain, if you are short on money I would suggest getting some. Most are heavy, but there is one particular armor called Stalhrim armor that is as strong as dragon. Stalhrim amor comes in light and heavy variations.

Resetting Perks: At the end of the story you can choose to reset any perk you like for the cost of one Dragon Soul. You can visit this place as many times as you like

Music: the new music for Dragonborn was amazing, but it did feel out of place on some occasions

Personal grievances: At the end of Dawnguard the boss had light armor and at the end of Dragonborn Miraak also had light armor. This is somewhat annoying to someone who likes to use heavy armor.

Dragonborn rating: 8.5/10- I highly recommend this DLC. The side quest are amazing

Oh a review by Angr-

Wait, what.

I liked the DLC, far better than Dawnguard in my eyes. It seems that there is too many unique and OP armor/weapons though. Not that I'm complaining :D

Dawnguard was criticized because it was very linear and beyond the main storyline there was little to nothing to do.

Dragonborn has gone the other way with a smaller main storyline but with masses and masses of new sidequests and locations and things.

I think Dragonborn is just as good a DLC as Dawnguard, just in a different way. I agree that Miraak was mildly disappointing but I think in many ways he was intentionally meant to pale in comparison to Hera-Mora, who is utterly terrifying when he gets angry.

The weapons and armors and items of Dragonborn aren't quite as good as the Dawnguard. The powers of the Black Books are really really great though.

Also the Dwarven Black Bow of Fate, from Dragonborn, is a great addition to the game. Along with my Auriels Bow and Enhanced Dwarven Crossbow the new Black Bow is going to be a permanent weapon in my inventory.

I haven't discovered the Dwarven Black Bow of Fate yet. What does it do and where do you get it?

It's a 50% chance on hit to absorb enemies Health, Magicka and Stamina. It is found in Kagrumez. You need 4 Resonance Stones. You get two from the actual Dwemer ruin, and there are a few more scattered in other Dwemer places, and the Silt Strider near Tel Mithyrn has one.

Returning to Solstheim was, and is continuing to be, soooo good. I'm taking it as slow as I can. Really, really enjoying speaking with a proper Telvanni wizard again. I think Brelyna enjoys it too.

Trussingdoor is pretty kewl. He fires lasers and doesn't afraid of anything.

It was better than Dawnguard from a content standpoint, but it really fails to match the "epic" feel of the DG main quest. That journey through the forgotten vale and Falmer place was beautiful. There's more to do, I guess, but it's not as exciting, and it's still not ENOUGH. There are what, like three or four new armor types? And five or six new clothing items, a few of which you have to murder for.

And the unique armors are just sone of the new materials with special effects. Not even a recolor or reskin, just a rename and enchantment. The Blackguard armor isn't even new, it's just Linwe's armor with the bugs fixed, something Bethesda should have done anyway in a patch.

The mainquest was freaking disappointing. It took me through like four dungeons and I didn't even get to kill Miraak myself. He got stabbed with a tentacle. That is the most anticlimactic ending possible.

This DLC is also biased in favor of HA users. Light Stalhrim looks horrible, Chitin is meh, and there is no Netch Leather armor. WHY WOULD YOU MAKE NETCH LEATHER AN ITEM BUT NOT INCLUDE NETCH LEATHER ARMOR.

And HEAVY chitin? Wtf? If you wanted to make an armor with light and heavy variants, you should have done as with Stalhrim and chosen a Medium armor. Light and Heavy Bonemold is much more logical. The whole theme of Bonemold is it's a balance of protection and mobility. YOU EVEN BROUGHT BACK THE BOOK ABOUT BONEMOLD, EXPLAINING ITS ORIGIN AS A COMPROMISE BETWEEN LIGHT AND HEAVY.

Don't even get me started about the lies. No, Bethesda never promised Spears or any level of fun in Dragon-Riding. But that didn't stop them from strategically placing them in the trailer, and never publicly stating that the player could not have spears. The trolls even made them an item you could take off dead reiklings, only for you they are arrows that shoot ten feet and do Steel-level damage.
-blam!- you Todd Howard. -blam!- you in your sleazy PR-manipulating ass.

Also, Reavers, seriously? These are just Dark Elf bandits with better stats.

This DLC, now that I've had my time with it, just -blam!-s all over the wonderful expansion that was Bloodmoon.

Bloodmoon was huge. This is nothing.

In a way, Dragonborn is to Bloodmoon what Skyrim is to Morrowind. Awesome compared to what else is currently out there, and prettier than it's predecessor, but it isn't half the game it's grandaddy was. Literally, in this case.

I will admit the no spears thing was disappointing

I am still debating whether or not I should get this DLC yet. I do enjoy playing Skyrim but right now I'm mainly playing Halo 4 and some Black Ops 2 here and there...Plus the price seems a little ridiculous...
