I am in sincere search of some good viking metal. I'm talking about the kind that sends a chill down your spine and makes you want to climb snowy mountains and bare knuckle fist fight bears.

I'm not well informed on the genre so the big ol' google machine wasn't really helpfull. One of my friends suggested Amon Amarth, which I liked, and I'm guessing there's more to the genre and one of you might help me out.

Recon Number 54 -
If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

Heidevolk.

Whilst it might not be what everyone classes as Viking Metal, the songs are mostly about the Norse Gods being Badasses. It is the germanic versions of them so like this

Wodan - Odin
Donar - Thor

They are Dutch btw

Turisas

There's a “U” and “I” in union but just an “I” in my beliefs

Amon Amarth.

Would European Power Metal be what you're looking for?

If so, I suggest you listen to Lost Horizon.

Here's one of their songs.

Heidevolk.

Turisas was ok, but still pretty soft. Amon Amarth actually has that extra heroic kick to it. Heidevolk is also pretty good, but I'm from Holland myself so it sounds really funny to me. Also that power metal wasn't anything like I was looking for.

I'm looking more for things like this

or this

My bad. I just looked it up. I didn't realize viking metal was an actual genre.

The song I linked is good, though. :P

Yup.

Look up Tyr. Heidevolk is Dutch, not Viking.
