Subject: Is our education system bad or is it us?

Basically, is it that our education system just -blam!-s all over us or is it that we don't get motivated to learn?

please elaborate!

Both

please elaborate!

NO!

It's us.

I hate school.

What country? America I presume.

Goes both ways. When I was in high school, I smoked weed before class and still managed a 4.0 gpa.

I am the God Emprah of Mankind.

Deal with it.

The system could be a lot better, but plenty of the students don't know how to behave better than wild animals it seems.

Both.

That's all I have to say about that.

It's partially the system and partial the parents for not motivating the kids to learn.

Yup.

Both.

Many curriculums focus on this "journals/touchy feely/my thoughts are" crap, group assignments and generally things which are not beneficial to students' learning. Oh, and the use of iPads in class is a gimmick.

On the other hand, students are far less disciplined than in the past and are also less interested in learning.

Both, but I'm willing to lean on our education system being more flawed.

please elaborate!
Thoughts of having a standardized model comes to mind, so does teaching kids to score well on tests rather than teaching them the skills they need to be intelligent adults or the skills they need for a good, decent blue/white collar job.

Either you are already a very learned individual or you just were motivated by the weed.

Sounds incredibly stupid, but I could just focus more.

Gather around the campfire, once it goes out, it's out for good.

The education system is trying to educate a generation that doesn't want to learn.

They made the Yard stick for a reason.

Eases external stresses, makes sense.

Coming from Texas I know what you are talking about. Texas' public schools are required to give out the TAKs test (well I don't know if they still do since I go to a private school now)and teachers basically teach students how to pass that instead of actual, usable knowledge.

For me the problem is not that we don't want to learn, it's rather that i don't want to learn unnecessary things that dosen't matter in the world we live in today.

It's both to an extent, I have seen great teachers and horrible ones.

Great kids that want to try hard and deadbeats that get out ASAP.

I smiled there. It's not fear of physical punishment that is needed, but fear of disrupting the teacher which is needed or a firm respect. Something many in this generation don't have sadly.
