I wish there were at least one person who was immortal and could tell us stories of the past and advice for the future.

Historians would like to have a word with you. Granted, they aren't the best at giving advice for the future but they are experts in their respective fields of history.
Well yea historians can bring up past records, but there are certain things that we don't know of the past. Also, this person who is immortal could tell us exactly what it was like to live in those days. They could tell us how certain things were build (stone henge), what Jesus actually did and how he performed his miracles, what people ate and why they did the things they did.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

Assuming he was geographically present for any of it.

Well, by that logic, you would just become another historian; someone's who's learned about the past but hasn't experienced it first hand. You'd really need to experience the past yourself to get a grip on it, I'd think.

Absolutely. You would just keep learning, and eventually learn how to learn more.
Epic argument is epic.
