Pretty easy question. Should new cars be required to have a built in Breathalyzer? Should you have to blow under the legal limit just to turn your car on?

My opinion is yes. The car companies should start doing this. I literally cant think of a negative to this. It should greatly diminish the amount of drunken drivers.

Imagine what people would do with it.

Just for booze right?

I really see no downside to this, but the only loophole I can find is someone not (as) drunk cheating for a more drunk person or something. I know it makes no sense, but there's some stupid people out there.

Don't judge a book by its cover, unless it has bacon on the cover, then it is a good book.

no, people would easily find a way around it.

"There's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I'd like to think that I walk that line every day."

What if you're a bit drunk but there's someone coming after you, trying to harm you, but you have nowhere to go except driving away, 'cause you're in a deserted parking garage or something cliche like that.

Otherwise it sounds like a good idea.

No. The federal government does not have the authority under the constitution to force car manufacturers to produce their cars with breathalyzers.

I am the God Emprah of Mankind.

Deal with it.

Well you can't beat the test, so it has no downside. Other than sleeping in your car on the road.

The only problem I see with this is that legal limits of intoxication vary by state. Some allow for as much as 0.08 BAC, some don't allow any more than 0.01 BAC, some won't even allow that.

I'd say that if all new cars are built with a Breathalyzer with a limit at 0.08, I'd be cool with it.

No.

The number of drivers that drive sober regularly far exceed those who don't. It'd be a huge waste of money.

Implying something like that is foolproof. They come out with that, and I guarantee in one week, there will be plans on the web about disabling the feature.

What string of logic did they follow for seatbelt laws?

Yes they do.

I would be for this if there was a way to test for alcohol that didn't require blowing into something. Is there a breathalyzer that you don't have to put your mouth on?

Ummm...I'd just pay someone 20 bucks who isn't drinking to blow into it.

A drunk man can just get someone sober to breathe it for him and then drive off. Wouldn't work.

And then your hepatitis and crack addiction will be reported directly to the government and your primary physician. You know, for your convenience and health.

This.

People who are forced to use a Breathalyzer to start a car for a DUI do this already.

They would probably also enact a law that made it a felony to blow into a drunk persons tube. That would be a deterrant.

It should be mandatory. It would save a lot of lives as well as save people from making horrible decisions. It would also let me know how drunk I truly am.
