Ummm...I'd just pay someone 20 bucks who isn't drinking to blow into it.

They would probably also enact a law that made it a felony to blow into a drunk persons tube. That would be a deterrant.
It already is illegal! But people do it anyway.

No. The federal government does not have the authority under the constitution to force car manufacturers to produce their cars with breathalyzers.

What string of logic did they follow for seatbelt laws?

If you're talking about that cars are required to have them, it wasn't a law. It was just a mandate given by NHSTA.

If you're talking about that all people must wear seatbelts, that is actually left to the states.

*People who drive drunk "No".
*People who don't drive drunk "Yes".

It should be mandatory. It would save a lot of lives as well as save people from making horrible decisions. It would also let me know how drunk I truly am.

I don't drink drive ever. There is so many easy ways around it that I don't want to have to pay more for a car to have that POS in there.

yes because if someone blows into it and you hit someone 45 minutes later they can track that person in a heart beat.

No, because the crashes produce jobs, too. And I don't like to admit it, but funerals cost a lot of money, and that's how some people make a life. Besides, that's why you get a guy to drive you to and from pubs, or you do it and get some cash from your buds.

  • 12.11.2012 8:37 PM PDT

No.

They need to change the laws to be stricter about drinking and driving instead. My brother got 2 DUIs while under 21 before they decided to suspend his license and put in an interlock system.

Absolutely ridiculous.

How come? A minor inconvenience, to save thousands of lives. Sounds good to me.

ah that's right, I forgot they install tubes for those who tend to get DUIs

I really see no downside to this, but the only loophole I can find is someone not (as) drunk cheating for a more drunk person or something. I know it makes no sense, but there's some stupid people out there.
How odes that not make sense? This would be a legitimate problem for people who think that this might work.

Inferring it would even save 1 life. It's so easy to get around it's not funny.

And millions of extra dollars spent per year in construction expenses.

How would you even get the cars that don't have them now off the road?

  • 12.11.2012 8:41 PM PDT

That's silly.

You wouldnt. But eventually everyone would have these new cars.

I mean, yeah it would cost millions of dollars, but it could create more jobs.

How are we going to pay for those millions of dollars?

No it's stupid and it would face the same problems that exist now:

All you need to do is have someone else blow for you.

Not really. Pretty much all car construction is done via machine. There's no reason to hire anyone else to do that.

It would cost the corporations and the consumer more money, and as aforementioned, it's incredibly easy to defeat.

Minor inconvenience? You've never seen or used one of those things, have you?

Just a down right silly idea. There is always a possibility of someone sober blowing into one for a drunk.

Giggity Giggity Goo - Quagmire

The negative side of this that you didn't think of was that every single person every time they go to turn their vehicle on has to blow into the breathalyzer. That is a huge thing you looked over.

What about the time you're in a rush to get out of someplace and you have to stop to blow?
What if you're just warming up the car in the winter a couple minutes before you go?
What if you're an elder person or someone with asthma that can't blow into it well?
What if you're a delivery person that has to start their car countless times within an hour?
What if you're a Mormon who doesn't drink?
What if you're in a driver's ed car, do you think it is sanitary to have everyone blowing on the one breathalyzer?
I could go on all night.

Should we have mobile blood testing stations in cars too?

That way we can determine if they are high also.

What if you're a bit drunk but there's someone coming after you, trying to harm you, but you have nowhere to go except driving away, 'cause you're in a deserted parking garage or something cliche like that.

Otherwise it sounds like a good idea.
Exactly. It sounds good on paper, but there are too many ways it could go wrong.
