So, I may be mistaken, but a good majority of the schools in the United States of America, fighting results in a suspension for all parties involved in said fight, correct? That is the way my school and the rest of the schools in Utah do it.

Anyways, I find this stance to be ridiculous. It's a punishment to both parties, even though one side -most every time- is simply defending himself from his/her assaulter. That doesn't make sense. Why would the school system punish a kid who's defending himself? If I wanted to get someone suspended, all I would have to do is get them to fight me.

Clearly, this is a broken system, Flood. So, I've voiced my opinion, what's yours on the matter? How do you think we can fix it or improve it?

Yup.

Agree. It's too late, the pussification of the nation has been going on since the 60's.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Not just that, law suits ensue. Which is the main reason why I don't.

Easy, the one who starts trouble will get trouble. Simple as that.

  • 12.11.2012 8:39 PM PDT

It's just 'he said, she said' otherwise. Unless you're willing to let the school implement constant surveillance, you'll just have to deal with it.

There's literally no way that schools can decide who started the fight. Don't say witnesses, because then the popular kids would just get their friends to say that some other kid started the fight and their friend was just defending themselves.

This. Unless you want to go all Big Brother on your students, there's not much way of deciding the instigator.

Join the Outer Haven group!

Even though my schools had cameras, nobody was ever given more punishment for starting one. In fact, victims usually get more time because they normally aren't trouble. A lot of times the bully gets a swat on the wrist and that's it.

Have nice day.

Hell just let them duke it out. Only stop it if it gets to out of hand.

This. Defending yourself has become a punishable offense.

My motto is, if you get hit, you're both going to get suspended and get a nice ticket, so make it worth your while and beat the -blam!- out of the other guy.

There's got to be a middle ground somewhere though. It's a broken system. A very broken system.

It is because violence begets violence. If someone punches you, you punch them back, one of you is going to hold the beef and then escalate it or at the least return to it. I don't agree with it myself, but there is a point to it.

The problem with fighting is that you're just as likely to hurt yourself as your opponent.

Schools aren't for fighting. Don't get in fights at school.

"Life is constantly fleeting from your grasp even from the very day it's bestowed upon you, but the shadow of death is always there, waiting for its chance to take you away."

"Even though many may not think so, ignorance and innocence are one and the same. The only difference is that one sounds nicer."

"I once knew a man who spent his entire life contemplating where we go after our death....it's a shame he realized it a second too late to tell anyone."

It's an idiotic stance, but for some reason they think it's a good idea. Why? I haven't the faintest idea, but i'd really like to meet whoever decided, "let's punish the victim too" and give them a punch in the face.

But a suspension does nothing. It's simply a free day to do whatever the hell you want, and it punishes those who are defending themselves.

That's quite contradictory. If it is a free day to do whatever the hell you want, how does that punish those who are defending themselves? You're getting a day off to cool down.

Yay yuh!!!!!

The stupid thing is people sue people now a days and can win even if they started it.

  • 12.11.2012 9:05 PM PDT

Two makes there more than speakers.

You get expelled in my school for not only fighting, but defending yourself in one.

Sorry, that wasn't exactly my point. But do you really think a suspension from school makes you cool down? If it were me defending myself, it would cause feelings of deeper resentment. I got kicked out of school for a day because of his decisions.

It all began with womens rights and enlarged with the rebellious hippy movement

Than social media completed it

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Because I have no idea why.You would think the situation would be different though, since you have the right to defend yourself.
