I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

Another thing I am beginning to notice is how annoying they are in quote pyramids...

To be fair, most people's gamertags are not their names. Point taken, however.

I used to sign my posts with stuff like "*Head explodes*" or something like that. It basically involves me being brutally killed.

Maybe I should do that again.

It seems that users that regularly use signatures are more well known than others, but not necessarily in a good way. I suppose it creates a connotation/bias with their username when people encounter it.

I honestly don't understand why people do it. How does it benefit you as a person and the community as a whole?
Posted by: CrazzySnipe55You haven't always signed you're own posts. After all this time, why now?

Break the windowsill

Signatures always come off on me as pretentious. Like you want people to know your name as if its more important than other names. Usually if its someone like a admin its a sign of authority but otherwise its pretty annoying

I don't know. I've just recently started to. And to those saying it's for attention: with the amount of people who clearly dislike me and what I post on this forum I got enough (negative and positive) attention before using the signature. So nope, try again.

Did I say I was popular? I said I got enough attention with the posts I made to the point where I didn't feel I needed to implement the use of a signature to scrounge up more recognition.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

This issue has been around as long as these forums have. It will never change and it's not a big deal. As long as the signature isn't so distracting that it takes away from the actual post content, there's no harm, no foul.

And considering that we're all posting on a video game forum, I hardly think anybody here is justified in judging others for "wasting time."

I judge based on the wasted space (lol). Check out page 1, for example. The more people quote Crazzy, the more space is wasted.

I guess you can argue that I'm wasting space right now as my reply will amount to nothing in the end... Oh man. My brain is breaking right now.

While I get your point "wasted space" implies there's a finite page size and my sig is reducing the amount of content you can view. It does not. It adds 2 more lines to each post. One could argue that you wasted space in that you could've made that post all one paragraph.

Chapter

It isn't really, "necessary" but it's not really against the rules. Some people like them, and others don't. But it really isn't a big deal because it's sort of human nature to want to stand out, right? No one wants to blend in. As long as it isn't causing issues it isn't a big deal.

Also, I could also use snipe's sig.

I wasn't implying that there's a finite amount of space, but you're literally adding spaces to the page that are unnecessary. Completely blank, or an entire line that now only holds only a ©. It's also adding length to the page. Completely worthless unneeded length. More scrolls. Same can be said about that annoying space added at the top of the post when quoting someone.
I know who you are based on your username, not your "artistic" use of the copyright symbol!

Clearly it's not used by the whomever has the sig to let people know who they are unless they use their actual name. Do you take me for an idiot? I sincerely hope not.

Also, one scroll (notch of a mouse wheel or click of the down arrow) proceeds just a bit more than 2 lines, and so you're complaining about me "wasting" a fraction of a scroll per post. That seems like a bit of an asinine argument to make: that you're upset at me wasting a fraction of one scroll per post I make or that people quote. There is absolutely no way that you actually consciously recognize any sort of increased effort when scrolling through a page I've posted on.

It seems as if you're just trying to make up a non-issue to illegitimize the use of signatures more because of your own inability to ignore those two lines (since they seem to irk you so) than it being an actual detriment to these forums as you are implying.
