It's no more a waste of space than the threads dedicated to this topic over the years. :p
But where's the line between a legitimate sig and just outright spam?
© is okay but how about ©©©©©©©©©©?
I'd say that a "©©©©©©©©© " at the end of every post someone makes is pretty much waste of space. Copy/pasting stuff is just spam imo.
'©' is not okay.

I know who is posting the content.
Putting a signature under your post content is literally like having your prefix and title bar above and below your post.
"not okay". Really? Does it affect you that much? Does it? The fact that you're so up-in-arms over single character is honestly baffling. PLEASE explain to me why it is so "not okay". Also, @Make, I don't have to copy and paste it. ALT+0169 is just as easy.

"Life to you stepson and everlasting glory. " Thifes World.

I would use a signature only to show how serious a topic would be depending on the person being sent to. Sincerely Commander.ect or CMDR!...ect.

If it were a business or a topic that should be taken in a more serious light then yes. Otherwise no in my opinion. It looks cool for some so they have the option but taking a few typing classes in high school they teach this about how to put a signature in.

Unless you feel the need to make it about strokeing the old ego. In the end its a personal choice. If they want to put one in it tells me about who they are. Also useing it as a name thing is kinda silly.

Walking around as CT at the end of every post that is not in a formal manner seems just a misuse of the signature.

Mine is just Finnish. My point here is that if I went and posted the same thing (whatever it is) on every thread here, I would get reported for spam. I just don't know how signatures are any different.

The only reason I used to put the little smiley at the bottom of my posts was to give them something unique for search purposes.

I figured that if I put a smiley-with-a-space - because it was somewhat different from a regular smiley - I could run queries on the search and only bring up my own posts (ie. not only those in my recent post history). In theory it was a good idea, but it wasn't until I tried out the search that I found out it wasn't working (I think the parenthesis was being escaped). Oh well...

Anyway, they're not really useful on web forums nowadays in contrast to where and when they were - where all you might have was an email address to identify you - email conversations, mailing lists, Usenet, etc... At least, that's a signature in a more traditional sense. Posting links to your blog, favourite quotes, etc... don't really fit that and are more suited to an "about me" section which should really never be displayed in a forum by default IMO.

Because, obviously, it's not the entirety of someone-who-uses-a-signature's post, whereas in your example you would just be posting the same thing all the time, every time. I get that you're trying to make a point, one that may be valid, but it falls flat on its face when you consider the fact that the average signature is 5 characters or less and is not nearly as intrusive as posting the same exact thing in every thread without actually making a legitimate post.

The sound of iron shocks is stuck in my head, The thunder of the drums dictates
The rhythm of the falls, the number of dead's the rising of the horns, ahead
From the dawn of time to the end of days I will have to run, away
I want to feel the pain and the bitter taste of the blood on my lips, again

Post signatures are annoying and pointless.

I usually read the topic way before I look at who wrote it... >_>

Still, it is kinda silly. I don't need to know that Yorkie is still Yorkie... haha

My god, reading this forum is all awkward now. I keep noticing my eyes flicker around from the avatar, to the name, to the text.

At least I am immune to the "you are now blinking/breathing"!

Doesn't matter how long the average signature is. If they are allowed, they are allowed and that's it. And I never meant posting something random without actually posting on topic. That's not allowed anyway, doesn't matter if it's copy/paste or not.

Well here's something you don't see too often: CrazzySnipe admitting he's wrong about something. Now that I think about it, the whole © thing is pretty obnoxious. While I still maintain I didn't do it for attention, I did do it to be different and unique and that's definitely not a good enough reason to derail, even briefly, 10% of the threads I post in with "Stop copyrighting all your posts!", etc.; it's not fair to the OPs of those threads. Having said that, it's also annoying for me to constantly get PMs, etc. about it.

If given the opportunity to go back in time, I would've never used it. It's irrelevant, it's annoying, it's not relevant to me, I've no real reason to do it, and it detracts from my posts (which aren't very good in the first place so I guess that was a bit of a positive).

Is that better _____? Am I less of a _____? Can I at least be somewhat of a mix between a _____ and a _____?

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

I see it as pointless, but I don't mind unless it takes up too much space or is irritating.

I personaly don't mind "yorkie", but the copyright symbol just takes up space (two lines!) and is annoying.

Signatures and gimmicky account names/posting styles are a cheap way for people to try to get attention for themselves without having to come up with things that actually further the good of the community like quality posts or cogent arguments.
