Got mine on thursday from Amazon. Such a fantastic concept, buried in the craptastic pathfinding & atrocious fps segments in the single player. The fps parts, by itself, isn't a huge biggie, since you can play skirmish. BUT the pathfinding! Oh sweet holly hell, the pathfinding! I have not screamed @ a game in such a long time. Choose unit(s) - move to carrier for fuel/repair/respec - carrier is literally directly in a straight line from unit across an open beach & a straight shot through the water - proceed to watch in rage filled bewilderment as bastard pathfinding code stops said unit, backs into a tree, pauses to calculate the worst possible path & promptly proceeds to make a u turn & circle the island in the opposite direction, being destroyed by an enemy base in the process.
Yeah yeah, I know there is a pseudo workaround with the waypoint plotting but the game doesn't pause while you give overhead move orders, so taking the time to plot is a recipe for disaster in a battle. Besides, most of the time, it only takes the edge off of the prob, but doesn't eliminate it.
All that being said, tho, I am finding flashes of brilliance in this & am having a blast when it does work. Funny thing is, there was a mandatory 4mb release update. Can't imagine what that might have been, unless the pathfinding was even worse..*shudder*. Still, if BI patch the pathfinding to just a half decent working order, I will love this game fully. But as it stands now, not being able to trust your units to follow directions & move orders reliably, kills the strategy aspect completely. Here's some gameplay and introduction explanation.
