Soldiers with futuristic body suits and capes? And that giant vehicle/gun thing? For some reason that whole picture has a steampunkish tint to it, and it's disturbing. Steampunk and other, not quite similar styles (futurism mixed with things that just don't quite fit), just turn me off.

Not really I feel like rage was more steampunkish. Destiny sounds much more than that.

Sergeant Explosion and The Quiet Day in London.

That concept art is far from screaming Steampunk.

Rage was set in a post-apocalyptic world. It hardly qualifies as stamp punk, though it looks similar. The setting changes everything.

They're wearing the rags because it's cold, not because it's secretly the nineteenth century.

How you figured "screaming" is synomical with "a tint of" I have no idea.

I would compare the Destiny concept art more to a futuristic sic-fi style. Very reminiscent of Star Wars.

I'm sorry; I assumed futuristic body suits would keep you warmer than a cape.

The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown

I don't think you know what that word means.

EDIT: Maybe you're confusing the word steampunk with cyberpunk? Which would still be incorrect.

Urk or DeeJ confirmed a while back that their next game wasn't Steam Punk.

Typically it's post-industrial age technology being implanted into victorian-age settings. But the term has evolved to encompass technology (a cape is a technology) implanted into a place which it most likely wouldn't be used, whether because it's outdated or not invented yet.

Steampunk generally follows a futuristic scifi with a 19th century Victorian or an American western twist. So far I have seen nothing that seems to follow that but anything is possible for this game and we won't know the full scope until 2013.

To me it kind of looks like Star Wars: The Old Republic style.

No it hasn't. Here is your mistake OP.

That's always been my understanding, but let's say you're right. It's still discouraging because the picture reveals a lack of realism.

You're hundreds of years in the future and are wearing futuristic body suits with advanced looking helmets. Why are you wearing a cape? It seems like a cheap add-on for the sake of making the characters look cool.

And the vehicle/weapon looks overtly makeshift. Then again, being the besieged, last city on Earth, makeshift would make sense.

Disregard Females, acquire currency.

There are different factions in Destiny and I think the "capes" are one way of expressing their faction.

Also they aren't capes they are cloaks.

That's quite a leap you took there. All a cape would do, other than show your allegiance (of which you could find ten other more efficient ways of doing), is obstruct moving in a firefight.

Unrealistic.

Does not in the remotest sense resemble steampunk.

Besides, since when did Capes and cloaks require steam boilers to function?

Did you look at the people in the picture wearing the capes?
