I saw a story just now that said Nirvana is going to play a benefit concert for Hurricane Sandy victims tonight with Paul McCartney subbing for Kurt Cobain.

That sounds....just awful. What? is old a** Paul going to jump around singing "Smells like teen spirit?"

Can you imagine McCartney trying to sing "Breed" or "Lithium"

I wonder whose idea this was. Mix two generations that couldn't understand one another any less and see what happens.

Disregard Females, acquire currency.

Paul McCartney can do anything.

Shakes Magic 8 Ball

I'm not certain how they're going to reverse age David Grohl to play for Nirvana.

It'll be interesting to watch.

"Apparently people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. If you show them enough times that their arguments are bull-blam!-, then maybe just once, one of them will say, 'Oh! Wait a minute I was wrong.' I live for that happening. Rare, I assure you."-Lemmy of Motorhead

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

Why didn't they pick the new vocalist for Alice in Chains to fill in for Kurt?

He's talented. But Cobain had a singing style that was unique as a finger print.

And even then, I don't think Paul knows how to do Grunge, which is about as far away from his kind of music as you can get without going into rap.

This sounds interesting for sure.

If anything they should have used that Tupac technology and just given us hologram Kurt.

Screaming into a microphone. Hardly.

But no one sounds like him. Regardless of how you feel about his music, the fact is that it wasn't written to be performed by someone like McCartney.

Just Imagine Cobain trying to sing "Here comes the sun." Silly isn't it?

Halo is great. Bungie is great.

Just pump some heroin into him and it will be close enough. All he has to is sing from his gut

"Here comes the sun" wasn't a Paul McCartney song.

You're missing the point. That was a Beatles song. It fit. It was their style.

Nirvana had a style that was full of angst. Their style was "Everything is bullsh**." Whereas the Beatles sang for a generation that felt as though they had the whole world in their hands and that they were going to save the planet with their big ideas, Nirvana sang for a generation that felt like it had been forgotten by history and that nothing they did was important or mattered in any way.

McCartney is going to have trouble fitting into that because that is essentially the antithesis of the Beatles.

Just stop.

It was a George Harrison solo song.

You know more about the Beatles than I do.

But my point still stands. The gap between Paul and Kurt is too large.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Judging form the arguments above, I don't think it will be as good as the people who organized it thought it would be, but I don't really know.
