as opposed to actively helping them destroy the person by ending them to jail, yes.

People who want to be druggies will be druggies for as long as they want to be druggies. Nothing we can do to "help" them will actually help until they want to change.
so you're going to send her to jail and destroy the lives of her and her child because you don't want her destroying the life of her child.

like i said before; Hooray For Justice!

so you're going to send them to jail and destroy the lives of them and their child

Not every jail is filled with thugs who are in there for killing a person.

And her child stands a better chance being born in prison.

Punished, yes, but for a charge where they won't get locked in a fortified building with other bad people in it.

I'll support this as soon as the government starts issuing Conception Certificates instead of Birth Certificates.

no. in fact, some prisons are the ideal places for raising children; with boundaries and structured time allowing your child to flourish without letting them run wild.

And her child stands a better chance being born in prison.the mother and child will still be together so i have no idea where you got that from.

Because in order to punish someone for murder, they must murder a person. In the eyes of the government, a fetus is not a person. Thus, abortion is not murder.

If they issued Conception Certificates, you would be considered a person in the eyes of the government while you are still a fetus. If the pregnancy is terminated, then the mother can be tried for murder.

Similarly, the doctor performing the procedure would be charged with 2nd degree murder, and miscarriages could be charged as involuntary manslaughter.

This is what could happen if we considered fetuses people with all the same rights.

By that same reasoning, how is a pregnant woman doing drugs or drinking child abuse then? What you're saying here seems to contradict what you're saying on the first page.

Because both instances happen to a fetus, which is not legally considered human. Not as big a leap in logic as you think.

[Obviously, they aren't that concerned about their future child if they're willing to do drugs while pregnant. The hypocrisy is in that one statement I said already. The whole reason why abortion is allowed is because it is believed that the woman's anatomy takes priority to the fetus's life. By saying they should not be allowed to do drugs or drink but they can have an abortion, you are being a hypocrite.

The difference is that the aborted fetus was never intended to become a child and never will, but the fetus that's inside the body of a drug addict or a drinker is intended to be a child, and may well be born someday, so why not try to protect the fetuses that actually will become children someday?

To my knowledge, endangering the life of a fetus is already a crime, and the child will be taken away from the mother if/when it is born.

I just don't understand why you'd suddenly support the notion that a fetus is a person at conception just because the government declared it so. If that's the case, you should Google the "Unborn Victims of Violence Act", which declares fetuses to be legal victims in cases of violence, or the UN's policy on protecting unborn humans (I have it bookmarked at home but I'm on my laptop at school right now, or else I'd link it). It's always struck me as odd how it's legal to destroy a fetus through abortion but it's illegal to kill it by injuring the mother.

If they're doing something illegal then yeah, they should go to jail.
If they aren't caught doing something illegal, such as drugs (even if they are doing drugs), then when the baby is born (after testing) they risk their child being taken away from them. Some states already have that in effect.

I'm not going to pretend that this is all black and white, or cut and dry. The fact is that pregnancy and fetuses is a huge grey area on what is or is not a "person" and what rights that "person" has or does not have.

I don't think abortion is murder because I don't think that a first-trimester fetus can be considered a fully-functioning person, thus inheriting all of the rights that a regular person has. If the government decided to rule that all fetuses were, in fact, people with rights, then they must be doing so on a foundation of science and reason, as it probably would have gone to the Supreme Court.

When a pregnant woman is killed and the murderer is charged with two counts of murder, is usually because the woman's life and that of her fetus' was taken without her consent. I do believe that charges would be different if the mother is 2 weeks pregnant, or 8 months pregnant.

Attempted murder is a crime. As is conspiracy to commit murder.
