You make out with midgets.
If you've ever joined a private group here at the ever so lovely Bungie.Net, you will have noticed that most, if not all, have a Spam Thread. This is where you can basically talk about what ever it is you wish; meaning there is no one topic! It's a brilliant idea, really, but the problem is the term "spam" here at the B.Net is treated a specific, and violent way. But the truth is, a single Spam Thread can actually be a good idea.
Reasons why:
It can serve as a typical chat room where if you get "off topic" because average conversation often includes 'chasing rabbits' so to speak, it's completely ok.
It also encourages a conversation about a specific question that a user may ask, and it will give other users the chance to be as broad and open and can stretch the topic as far as possible, instead of staying in the boundaries of the specific topic (all within the rules of course).
It also funnels all the trolls and flamers into one place (due to them thinking they have the freedom to commit actual spam, according to Bungie's definition), making it easier for the Forum Ninjas to perform their duties at enforcing martial la(rts)w (cwutididthar?).
There are many other reasons, but I really want to expand on the context of what I think Achronos meant by when he said "Spam is prohibited".
The actual Bungie definition of spam can be found here, and this is the list:
- Special characters, all-caps usage and attention-grabbing characters are all prohibited.
- Threads that only require a one-liner reply such as a number or rank.
- Misleading links.
- ASCII art.
- Petitions.
- Posts in any language other than readable and intelligible English.
- "Bumping" a thread solely to bring it back to the top of the forum.
- Creating the same thread or post over and over again.
- Creating pointless threads as part of a "mass" or "organized" spam attack.
Now lets break this down.
- Special characters, all-caps usage and attention-grabbing characters are all prohibited.
This thread is not attention grabbing, nor does it contain special characters or is it in all-caps.
- Threads that only require a one-liner reply such as a number or rank.
This thread obviously took tremendous thought and time due to the wall of text you're having to read. Thus ruling out the one-liner.
- Misleading links.
Links are Hawkeye accurate.
- ASCII art.
Contains none.
- Petitions.
Not a petition. This thread is an idea, and ideas are bullet proof! (Thanks, V For Vendetta)
- Posts in any language other than readable and intelligible English.
What's English, precious, what's English?!
- "Bumping" a thread solely to bring it back to the top of the forum.
Due to the popularity of a Spam Thread, that will not be a worry. It will always rule on top of the forum!
- Creating the same thread or post over and over again.
I refuse to go through all 36498 pages of topics to see if this has been done before in this fashion. I applaud any Mod who can remember if it has been.
- Creating pointless threads as part of a "mass" or "organized" spam attack.
There is a really good point to this thread, as I have already explained, and this is certainly not a spam attack. Its simply loose talk with no worry of a specific topic so free talk can be enjoyed!
Now, there is the matter of this small note:
Keep in mind that this list is not complete and the Bungie.net Moderators have the authority to determine whether a post violates the "no spam" rule or not.
To that I say this. I hope the Mods can appreciate the seriousness I displayed here and how I approached this in a respectful manner. I really do believe this is a good idea, but ultimately, it is up to them. My points have been made, so until the decision to lock or leave open comes into play, first poster chooses first topic!
Cheers!
