Topic in title, what are you top three weapon manufacturers in video games?
For me, number 3 is probably the Prometheans. They have an array of powerful weapons that covers all major weapon types and their weapons don't have a major perceivable weakness in general. However, none of their weapons are truly standout in terms of functionality. The Promethean battle rifle suffers in close-range as its hipfire damage is limited, and while the Boltshot can be effective in CQC, the charge-up prevents quick refire in more than a one on one confrontation. The Binary Rifle has proven to be effective, but the in-built laser sight often proves a detriment for the sniper. The Incineration Cannon packs a devastating punch, but with only one round before venting it leaves the operator completely exposed after each shot. Their grenades are unique in providing persistent area denial but they aren't nearly as punishing as they need to be. Overall, their arsenal of weapons is effective, but doesn't prove universal enough to earn a top spot.
Number two is probably Cerberus. Cerberus has the right idea when it comes to weapons, and really only the unique advantages of number one were able to push it out of the top spot. The Mattock is a highly effective battle rifle at all ranges and for a long time set the standard in the ME universe for quality. The Hornet, with proper training, makes for a solid infantry weapon, being able to fire small bursts at mid-range effectively and dishing fairly punishing damage at close range for its weight, combined with amazingly fast reload speeds to allow operatives to keep pushing forward when they have the advantage. The Talon is a medium-weight pistol that packs the punch of a shotgun, really, who doesn't the power of a shotgun essentially in their pocket? Most notable however is probably the Harrier. Patterned on the Mattock, it removed the single shot limitation while reducing the power per shot to manage the recoil, it can be fired in bursts at long-range or fully automatic in short to mid range for massive amounts of damage. Essentially comparable to the 20th century M16 in versatility, the only real drawback of the weapon is that the full-auto limiter of the Mattock had been implemented for more than just recoil issues - panicing operatives can burn through their clip, and due to the fact that the weapon utilizes larger than normal thermal clips to vent the large heat generation, prolonged firefights often result in ammo issues.
Number One is probably dataDyne. These guys are in the business of making weapons, and it really does show. Their most popular weapon is the CMP-150, with good reason. A healthy magazine, solid damage per shot, acceptable accuracy for an SMG (accurate at mid-range, with perhaps room for improvement at longer range), and light-weight enough to be dual-wielded, its most notable feature is probably what makes the weapon most impressive - built-in aim-assist. This feature can turn inexperienced shooters into elite marksman, allowing for almost anyone who knows how to hold a gun to participate combat operations. This gun alone would probably put them high up on a list, but it is only one of many. Another notable weapon is the K7 Avenger. Although it hadn't hit mass market, prototype versions have still proven extremely effective in the hands of elite operatives. Although it has a smaller than normal magazine for an assault rifle, it appears to have built in accelerators that increase the punch of each round, and it has exceptional accuracy for an assault rifle, easily comparable to standard battle rifles while firing in the automatic function. While the mobility of the shooter is limited while aiming down the sights, its recoil can be effectively managed firing from the hip, making it a highly effective run and gun weapon. It also has a built in threat detector that can detect mines and turrets, giving the operative using this weapon another tactical advantage. Datadyne has a slew of other weapons excellent for anyone looking to arm a group of freedom fighters or revolutionaries. Let's just say I know where I'm taking my business when I look to "liberate" a few systems in the Terminus.
