Hey flood, so I came across this and it got me thinking about nostalgia in general and the effects on the human mind.

I've noticed that for me, when I reminesce about my golden years, I often feel a bit depressed and wish I could go back to those times and I often feel very out of place.

How do you feel about nostalgia?

Pure Insanity
The point of war is not to die for one's clan, but it's to make the other bastard die for his
Right before you die, there is always a chance to save yourself, sieze that chance and live to fight another day
The best way to kill someone is to fight them with the same weapons they use and make them know you are better than them, not because of superior weaponry, but because of superior skill.
Hidden in the shadows, Clothed in camo, Armed to the teeth. Hunting.

Were it so simple.

The Wonderful LeSieg!

Someone posted a thread yesterday asking if Halo 3's music made them nostalgic. Long story short I went and played Halo 3 again today. It's pretty good, not as great as I remember, but I usually played with two or three friends at a time.

So nostalgia is good.

Fun Fact: Nostalgia is actually supposed to be a natural antidepressant.

Bananas too.

The most dangerous gunslinger in the west.

Nostalgia is always nice to have brief moments of it, bits and pieces.

I try not to dwell on it, though. Could almost see it as a drug; more you focus and use it, the more you want to hold on.

Mreh.

I think Nosalgia in general makes people forget how far we've gone as a species. Not that we are socially, politically and technologically perfect, but people forget a lot of the issues of yesteryear when they think about the past.

I can believe this.

I don't know, OP. It depends on what I'm being nostalgic about and my mood before I started thinking about it.

"When I joined the Corps, we didn't have any fancy-schmanzy tanks. We had sticks! Two sticks, and a rock for the whole platoon—and we had to share the rock!"

-Sgt. Johnson

I think Nostalgia is over all good. It's a wonderful feeling. I like to go back and think about things, but sometimes I get sad and wish I were there again. But overall, it's fun to remember and remember what you enjoyed.

Does anyone else have nostalgia flashes sometimes.

Where you just get hit with a massive nostalgia wave for an instant.

Best feeling ever.

But anyway, nothing, and I mean nothing, makes me nostalgia harder than old Runescape.

Halo 3 is where the morons of the universe congregates.

I am thinking of an old story. "Three Billy Goats Gruff" (hint the troll dies at the end)

I know what you mean.

This video, more specificly the end of this video, made me remember the LAN games I played with my friends in CE

  • 12.12.2012 9:46 PM PDT

I remember Halo 3 LANs. Those days are over and I've already accepted it. What is more depressing is games like Perfect Dark being neglected by most when it was re-released on XBLA. With dual stick control, that game is fantastic, and it is a huge shame to see it get passed by. Admittedly, some of the maps are garbage, like Facility, yes I'm saying it the same Facility map from Goldeneye is garbage, but it had some maps that were just a lot of fun and a lot of weapons to shoot your friends with. Also, who doesn't love holing up in some area on Complex and fending off hordes of Sims? Especially when the Sims aren't actually that bad. I loved how the Sims had personalities.

Beta Tau

Nostalgia is good but when it turns into blind hatred for all things new and change is when it goes to far.

  • 12.12.2012 10:22 PM PDT

The human element always mucks things up.

Yay.

  • 12.12.2012 10:26 PM PDT

Yes, but not as much as other games.

  • 12.12.2012 10:32 PM PDT

It's bad and prevents people from going forward and giving new things a chance.
