OK so today I was playing on halo in a server called Heavy weapons w*ores and then it hit me, I was face to face with an enemy and we were circling ready to fire, then he jumped while strifing to the right and shot the rocket in the air, he missed but got my sheild, next thing I knew I reacted with the same thing, jumped in the air while strifing and shooting the rocket, I got his sheild and naded him, after that I asked my self, "Why do people most fire their rockets while jumping?" Its a habit for me, is it for you?

Wow, I never realised that :)
I usually jump in the air, and aim at their feet at the direction they are moving.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

Well shooting at the ground works better because shooting at the body normally gets dodged and you waste a good rocket. Always works for me too. And yes, It's a habit, at least it's a habit for me.

Yes, but it has less accuracy, and it may end hitting you too.

Maybe, I think I would actually do.

There is no way in hell you are going to take a LAW(light anti-tank weapon) rocket and jump as high as you can and fire it at the ground 10ft in front of you. The results would be less then desirable.

  • 07.04.2006 10:32 PM PDT

lol

Yeah, you see more of the 'ground' and therefor it's easier to hit ;]

I find myself doing it all the time.

It is a habbit, we find ourselves doing it in pure instinct. In war, those who are on higher ground (or elevation, in this case) have the advantage. Now, I know it is impractical for a soldier to jump in the mid-air trying to shoot a heavy weapon while there are bullets and artillery flying from both sides, but in Halo, it isn't. In battle, if you have higher ground, then you can see around the area because you can see farther. Take the Battle of Bunkerhill, for example. Small-town militia were able to take down British regulars because they could see farther.

Let me reiterate: high ground good

But anyway, getting back to Halo here, it is only practical to fire while jumping, because not only does it allow you to see farther at times, but it also makes you harder to kill.

It's harder to kill someone who is jumping around than someone who isn't with a rocket launcher. It's especially hard trying to get a bodyshot with a rocket launcher while they're jumping around. And even if you do manage to hit a rocket below them, they'll probably just be damaged, not killed.

Also, it gives you the jump on them. Pun unintended.

Ffs, he's not a robot or a cyborg. Read the books please before saying anything.

No, I never jump when using a rocket. I love it when everyone jumps while rocketeering so that they give me a clearer view of how far they are from the ground and me. Another reason why jumping and rocketing is bad is because jumping makes you slower, so therefore it's easier for someone to blow you to Kingdom Come.

And therein lies the disadvantage of jumping in a game of rockets. You can calculate when somebody is about to hit the ground in the direction that person is moving and how far he or she is, and then you can shoot a rocket at their feet as soon as they touch the ground.

What I had seen is that when you attempt to fire a rocket at the guy and not at the ground and you fire it at the direction hes heading in, it may not hit his body but may go fly next to him to kill him.

Why I say that? A past couple servers ive been in, someone shot a rocket directly at me and I dodged it, it didnt hit my body but flew right by me which killed me....

Because you have a better chance of hitting the target above him than on the same level he is.

That? That happens all the time. It's because of the crappy netcode. I hate it when I get body shots off of people and they walk it off without a scratch. I've directly hit tons of warthogs, banshees, and ghosts with rockets, and stuck many a noob, but because of Halo PC's netcode, your computer doesn't sync up with the server host. So to the server host, it just looks like you missed it, even though on your PC, you hit that guy. Absolutely retarded, I know.

I've got a video clip where the gunner of a rocket warthog hits me with a direct bodyshot, blood splurts everywhere on the screen, but I run away without a scratch.

When you jump you reveal more of the fround around him, allowing a larger target to hit. I think. That's what I explained it off as to myself that is.

What? Play a game? FOR FUN???
This concept of fun confuses and infuriates me!

I don't care. If the guy is using a rocket on one person, he better as hell jump to avoid a HS from me.
Rockets, as well as the FRG is ANTI VEHICLE. They are ment to be used on vehicles. Not individuals. Because when you reload, you can then get run over by the vehicle that you could have shot, instead of wasting your ammo on one freakin person.

No. Rocket Lauchers, RPGs, etc are intended for anti-vehicle use. using a heavy weapon such as this against a single opponent is a waste of ammunition.

Now, I'm new, and I'd just like to say hi, and also state that I have seen rockets hit people numerous times and-der-he's still alive! I've stuck, smacked, swatted (With a Hog), smashed, sniped, and even stabbed (Needler) people and they just won't die! It reminds me of Austin Powers:WHY WON'T YOU DIE?!? or Serious Sam:Die when I kill you! It's driving me insane, and normally, my enemy gets a kill for it! (Guess who?) If you've seen me before (I'm Delta-4) and happen to be one of those people who happen to have gotten a cheap kill off of me, at least notify me! I've shot Banshees about TEN times with an RL and they still didn't die! Crazier than hell.

Well, anyway, back to the subject at hand, yes, it is a habit for me. It is responsible for about half of my kills due to the fact that it gives me the higher "ground" momentarily and it let's me get a good range on my enemy. I can see where they are and BOOM, they're dead. Normally, I'm either killed by another persons RL or we both kill eachother in one spectacular fireball. And what is it with people naming games whores and such nonsense?
