Subject: So Skype just charged me 13.99 without my authorization

I received an email from both PayPal and Skype saying I was charged 13.99 for some "package". Both emails are completely authentic but this charge is wrong. I've never ONCE added any sort of subscription to my Skype and I definitely haven't given them my PayPal info. So has Microsoft just outright stolen from me? Because I did not authorize this charge and they used information they weren't even granted access to.

I'm going to put in a request for a refund immediately but was curious if anyone else had this happen. According to their support site several people are getting this. It makes me furious that Microsoft is outright STEALING from me like this.

Then call your credit card company and dispute the charge. Simple, really.

I'm planning on it. I'd like to know how they charged me from a PayPal I NEVER gave them access to though. That sounds illegal to me.

Are said accusations damaging to his character? I doubt it. He has no case.

How did Skype get your payment info?
Exactly! I never added paypal to my Skype, I've never had reason to. I've never paid for voice calling, or any sort of subscription. My only guess is that they grabbed it from my Xbox LIVE account or something. I have no idea.

They literally just stole money from my PayPal without any sort of consent. It's not even in my Skype billing information.

EDIT: Currently talking to a tech support guy via chat.

Well, they can't just charge you. You have to give them your Paypal info. It's only $13.99, and it's easily solved through Paypal. Email them.

you may want to change your username and password ASAP. If you have any credit cards for any online accounts, cancel them.

This is how identity theft starts. Believe me, I know first hand.

Sounds like a scam.

Somebody tells you X, looks official, click their links, takes you too an official looking page where you enter your account info and they take that log in info and steal your account.

Double check that the money was taken from your checking/savings account or charged to your credit card.

Talking to a chat support person now. I know it will be solved easily and I also know 13.99 isn't much, but if I hadn't noticed the email that 13.99 could have become more and more over several months (apperently it was for the "Unlimited World" plan). It's also infuriating that they just added that plan without asking.

I still don't know how they got my information. According to the tech support guy I had a free trial of "Unlimited World" that expired, so they renewed it without asking. Funny because I never did any such trial. Typical Microsoft. Just amazing.
