I was reminiscing about the Fall of Reach today in Spanish 1, and thought back to the scene where the Chief and...Red team? were in Cote D'Azur, and encountered the Hunter pair when trying to steal that damn crystal. Chief's all like, "Switch to shredder rounds!!" and they tear away the floor and the ankles below the Hunters. Also, i was watching someone play Command and Conquer: Renegade, and was wondering: What the hell is a Flechette gun?

FLAchette? FLEchette? Someone help me. I know i saw a buncha you modern military buffs out there in like Hikaru119's post on the status of the MA5B and M6D in Halo 2, and must say i envy your vast wealth of knowledge, and must ask that it be put to use in this thread - for my sake, and those out there interested in knowing what the frig Flechette and shredder rounds are, and how they're used in certain combat situations.

I also decided to paint the Se7enth Column symbol on my wrist in the same class. It's kinda cok-eyed, but ok. It was hard, trying to get the 7 pillars symmetrical!!

Flechette is a projectile/shard, it tears through flesh. As for shreader rounders, just the term they use for armor-peircing high explosive rounds.

To be more accurate, flechette ammunition is a densely packed collection of needles rapidly projected from the barrel in a tight group. These needles have low mass so are completely unable to penetrate most forms of armour. However on unarmoured targets they flesh itself alters their trajectory, they glance off of bones, deflecting and seperating taking random paths of flight through the human body. That makes it very likely that any torso hit is going to hit something vital.

In general, shooting a flechette round into someone is like jabbing a big lump of Jello fifty times with a knife. What's left of the Jello is what the flesh looks like.
