The Flood must be a hipster society because I don't see any mainstream music at all

Lol - perfect timing - this thread proves it

All the albums I listed went to number 1 in the UK. All the bands were extremely mainstream.

if it was good music, more people would listen to it

I think people are forgetting the difference between someone who listens to music that came out a while ago and hipsters.

Though the morrow may be barren of promises, nothing shall forstall my return.

I don't mean to sound rude, but do you not understand the point of mainstream? Yes, it is partially media talking it up... but there is a reason that it is considered "mainstream". It is because there is a very large following of it. Some people listen to music just because everyone else is, but some purely love it. Me personally, I love gangnam style. Not because it is popular, but because I enjoy the song (though like most I don't understand it). Unfortunately, there are thousands of artists out there who have amazing talent, but not many of them will get recognized. Even after they do, it is hard to get a name out there. Whenever you play music true to yourself, you will get a small but dedicated following, but if you want to grow you need to cater to others interests instead of your own and will be called a sellout. Music business is a cruel cruel part of life.

Define mainstream.

I listen to virtually no modern music. 90% of my music comes from pre-2000. I listen to classical (piano and guitar), bluegrass, old country (Johnny Cash), rock and roll, ballads, hard rock, soft sock, classic Rock, punk rock (although very very... VERY few songs from it), and probably a variety of other genres I forgot that I like.

Lol @ Psy just now apologizing for a song he wrote in 2003 encouraging the slow and painful killing of American soldiers.

I liked the song until I heard that. After I read the song he made in 2003, I lost all respect I had for him.

If Fed Ex and UPS merged into one company, would it be called Fed Up?

I don't want to start another account for a digital number that has no true value in ten years.

Do people realize that Pink Floyd, Beatles, and Metallica were all considered mainstream at some point?

People need to stop misusing that term to say its music they hate.

You do know mainstream means that a lot of people listen to it right? Underground=/=good music all the time just has mainstream=bad musicl

The song was referring to two american soilders who ran over and killed two children in Korean with a Tank.

I clearly remember the incident too, since it was on the news. Everyone wanted them dead, and its also no different than any other artist protesting the toolbags that join the military.
