Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo
People like to believe that their life had somehow played (or in this instance, been part of) a significant part in a timeline. It sounds weird, but believing that their lives were part of he end of the world somehow makes them believe that their lives were more significant; same goes for the "beginning," but being in the "middle" doesn't make you special.
I forget where exactly I read this, but it was some philosophical essay I read as research for in a class of mine.
The author explained it in better terms (obviously), I'll try and see if I can remember the author and find the paper again.
