A few of you may know that I'm ranked top 10 in Washington state for competitive CoD, and after enough evaluation I have made up my opinions on the multiplayer.
Many people write a review the day after the game comes out with even playing much of it first.
The first thing I noticed when jumping into the game was how similar all the guns feel. I honestly felt no difference between the subs and the ARs. The recoil on the weapons seems to be all similar, the only difference you really notice is the rate of fire. Unlike previous games where different weapons would have different types of recoil (In the way of up and down, side to side, and forward and backward bounce.)
The second thing I noticed was that the pick 10 custom class system feels a bit flawed.
In order to use a second perk in one of the slots, you have to use a wild card. I was very disappointed by the fact that a wild card takes up one of the 10 slots, and so does the second perk you use.
The 3rd and biggest issue I've noticed is how flawed the League Play ranking system is. I would rather use Halo 3's ranking system than this trash. It does not put you into matches against similar ranked players, and it doesn't move you up in divisions the way you think it should. If you are playing solo play, it is very dependent on getting lucky in the players you get teamed up with. My first 5 games that were used to judge my win/loss ratio and place me in a division, 3 of which I was paired up with players running around quickscoping or using knife only. Making my win loss 2-3, placing me in the bronze division. My friend who also had 3 losses played solo with me afterward, and after winning 2 matches with him, he was also placed in bronze.
Now heres the kicker. The next match we play, he goes up to a silver division. At this point we have the same win loss ratio and same win streak. So how the system determined to move him up is beyond me. We won 2 more games and I still did not move up.
Fourthly, the shock charge and bouncing betty combo is ridiculously painful to encounter. Treyarch claimed they wanted to reduce camping, In doing so they created the campers best friend. Throw down 2 shock charges and a betty where theyre camping and its essentially a free kill. The shock charge is pretty much a stun/concussion grenande that does damage, it also prevents you from hearing the betty go off so you dont know to drop to the ground in order to avoid it.
The spawns in the game are pretty meh too... Especially in free for all. Players will spawn right next to you a good percentage of the time, usually players that you just killed.
The maps a nice, some are designed very well, others however, you walk around the map wonder what the hell the people who designed it were thinking when they made it.
Dead silence also seems pretty useless, Sound whoring seems a bit nerfed in some areas, and over powered in others.
Overall, the way the game plays is great, I wish there was more variety in weapon handling. The ranking system is terrible, and as per every call of duty, there is always a noob friendly combo thrown in there for the less skilled players.
Personally, I enjoyed the way the game handled in Black Ops the most, the Frame rate and maps of MW3, but Black ops 2 seems to lie somewhere in between.
tl;dr:
Game is good. Has some flaws. Very different from the other call of duties.
