Subject: Does anyone run with no virus protection?

close to zero =/= zero.

Yeah but the only way you're gonna get a virus like that if you go to sites that stream movies/shows illegally or pr0n sites.

I don't have virus protection on my Windows side.... but then I never go online with it either.

Are you implying that anyone here does anything but that?

I use ZoneAlarm. Haven't had a problem in the...idk 4 or 5 months I've had this computer.

Math rules the world.

Not true, you can get a virus without even having a browser on your computer. Hackers scan random ip addresses (your location on the internet) and attack whatever appears weak. An elderly couple only used the internet to read the news, had the news set as there home page and still got hacked this way. The FBI found that the hacker was using their computers as part of a bot net and storage for child -blam!-.

I own a Mac, so I don't worry about this virus stuff. It feels great not to have to worry. Protect yourself.

Read my earlier post replying the first guy who felt safe with a Mac in this thread.

I honestly don't run any antivirus on my machine but after working at Geek Squad I have to say kaspersky works the best for antivirus if your looking for free Microsoft Security Essentials

If I haven't fired you yet, it's because I'm still firing your mom in bed.

I've had Kaspersky for about 3 years and it's about to run out. I was thinking about just going without it since it's just a pain in the ass to handle. My GF has had her oldest computer for 4 years(her mom uses it now) and it has never gotten a virus.

Haven't used AV in what, two years? It's actually really easy. Don't let dumbasses use your computer without supervision, become familiar with the processes you usually have running in task manager, and if you want to have a backup plan or something in case -blam!- hits the fan somehow, have a separate partition with a backup OS installed. If you get some nasty bug from clicking on the wrong link that won't delete, just boot into the secondary OS and then delete it.

I'm either a fool or an inteligent man, depending on how sleepy or angry I am.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

My main computer uses three different anti-viruses, and a manual buttion. It's been handy on more than one occasion where I've been decieved by trusted sources.

You know, plenty of malware isn't actually visible to the naked eye. Most people don't even know they're infected until they run a scan.

Malware won't scream "lol, I'm in your computerz, stealing all your informationz!"

As for only getting viruses from sketchy sites, also VERY WRONG. 99% of viruses come from legitimate websites. Having no anti-virus is stupid. There is no exception to that rule.

The Ultimate Opinion.

Malwarebytes + AVG Free = I haven't had any viruses ever.

This. Viruses were obvious back in the day because your PC would slow to a crawl and experience plenty of other glitches.

Now they try to be stealthy to avoid alerting the user.

I'm on a Mac sooooo

so because so few people have them virus creators don't feel it is necessary to go through the trouble of creating a virus for the mac. However, as it becomes more popular then it will have to deal with a virus storm.
