As the profession implies, for media relation purposes. They also do quite a bit of work for the recruiting side of things.

I don't support or recognize the current US government so no.

I can understand not supporting or liking it, but not recognizing it just seems ignorant.

There are jobs in the military were you aren't killing people. Engineers, medics, doctors, cooks, pilots, captains, etc.
I like the way a DS of mine put it: "A hundred and fifty ways to support the infantry."

That sounds sooooo boring though. Don't you want to actually be doing something like driving a tank or something?

Yup.

No point. The government doesn't defend this country anyway, why kill some people overseas? I don't disrespect the troops, but they're in the wrong place.

Which is a matter of opinion. A lot of guys in Afghanistan and previously Iraq believed in what they were doing while others didn't.

Besides, the military is heavy on the benefits and a secure paycheck so it's a good way to support a family. Granted, you have to deal with deployments but those are becoming less frequent as of now.

To be honest, if I can avoid taking life then I will. If I have to take life, then I will. I'd like to do a job that supports the guys out there fighting for our country. Like showing the american people, or even our high ranking officials what it's like out there. The hell our troops go through.

but what do I know? I'm a senior in high school with goal in mind: Join the Navy.

~Thread-killer~

At the moment, no.

The only thing I'd enter the military for would be to fly, but until I get Lasik, I'm too blind to fly.

I may be wrong, but I think Lasik disqualifies you from piloting.

I'm joining the Army to become a helicopter pilot hopefully. I exceed all physical and mental requirements and got a 94 on the ASVAB.. Really hoping to get to the high school to flight school program. I believe they'll accept me because I have multiple leadership roles, self discipline and motivation ( Ran 2,200 miles ).

Only thing I'm worried about is my 2.8 GPA.

Advice?

If you aren't done with high school, try to bump your gpa up.

Keep yourself physically fit.

It's going to be insanely hard. I barely passed freshman year ( skipped all the time ) and bombed half my sophomore year. I doubt I could get anything higher than a 2.9-3.0..

Does the Army even care about GPA as much as other things?

Assuming nothing changes, I'm set to attend West Point starting this summer.

I feel sorry for you.

As prior enlisted and a soon to be ROTC officer I can't stand my West Point peers. In all my time in cadetland and operational Army I've never met one who hasn't had a huge ego complimenting their completely unwarranted superiority complex.

Not really, we don't defend our borders properly but have the resources to fight people in the desert. It's a waste of American lives and adds trillions to our deficit.

For enlisting? Not really. It's all about the ASVAB score.

For ROTC/West Point? Absolutely yes. It's one of the largest factors in deciding how you branch as an officer. But your High school GPA really only matters when getting you INTO the commissioning program of your choice. Once you're in one, your college GPA is massively important.
