Because it's only a video game. Something a lot of you cannot comprehend.
That's a wonderfully radical conclusion you've drawn considering we are in a forum that smiles on the furthering of positive discussion; whether it be about real life issues or the semantics of a video game.

So if you can draw a radical assumption, so can I right? I find it funny how so many people out there not necessarily don't try to mind their own words, but how many of those same people don't see the fallacies behind them. Sometimes I'm not one to remain exempt, but there are plenty of people serving time because they used ambiguous words in their court trials; because they did not know the English language.

Yes, we all understand that this topic of discussion is about a video game, but I believe we'd like to simply discuss it. There's nothing wrong with that is there? Albeit, even video games like to follow a certain canonical set of rules do they not? So when one's broken or bent there is no harm in trying to put logic to it. :)

The simplest explanation is that it isn't the Mk VI in the cutscene.

So it looks exactly the same in both instances, but isn't? Ha.

"What is better - to be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?"
-Paarthurnax

"The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world."
-G-Man

The exact same reason that they were all wearing Mark VI armour. 343 didn't do their research.

Edit: apparently it wasn't the Mark VI even though it looked like it. AKA a lame excuse for a dumb mistake.

That's still a lot of force to overcome. And we only now know about this in the games? This brings up even more questions. If Spartans have always had these thrusters, then why didn't the Chief use it before in the games?
On the flip side of considerations, has he needed too? Every action he has performed has worked out just fine. I'm sure if he "decided" he could not get out of a situation without the use of thrusters, he would have used said thrusters.

Even jumping from the station in Halo 2, for example. He knew what he was doing, where he was headed, his goal, and that he'd make it. He simply jumped knowing that it was all that was needed to get the job done.

Are people really still raging over the whole magical jetpack thing? Jesus people.

The Spartan II's always had thrusters. Read the damn books you lazy bastard.

I'm going to quote myself and slam my face into my desk as a result of my rage caused by the idiots in this thread.
Which book might that be?
Every. Single. ONE.
LOL jk idk. Who reads?!

Smart, wise and educated people. You know the kind of people who bother to do something great with their lives and have contributed alot to mankind itself.

Men like, Leonardo da vinci, stephen hawkings, albert einstein, etc.

Well...I definetly don't conrtibute to mankind but I still read.

It's not whether or not the Chief "felt" like using thrusters. It's that not a single game made even a single reference to thrusters. Not until Halo 4 do you see levitating spartans with armor that shouldn't exist during that time period.

^^^ Oooh, yes. Something I didn't quite think about.
All things considered, agreed. Although I'm sure we all realize that it's hard to introduce new ideas, concepts, and things in an already well established universe without it being noticed or picked apart. Like the Spartans having energy shields too during that same assumed pre-reach invasion. How late did they receive those anywho? I think I'm misremembering something somewhere.

You should take games more seriously.
From a literal perspective, I'm almost always relaxed when playing games. There's nothing wrong with that. I have more fun NOT taking them seriously.

From the implied perspective, if you want to get specific I can just as efficiently counter with how any seriousness brought on by the effort put into my posting is that of conversation, not video games. In which case your statement, "You should take games more seriously," does not apply.
Considering the second option, yes. Yes I do often delve too into things and take them a little seriously. Discussion is fun! (Hence why I'm slightly known for walls of text.)

Besides, you are countering the topic of discussion by avoiding it. It pains me not to tell you that is also a fallacy.

On an off topic of our off topic discussion note, that little list of fallacies (new favorite word you could say) is kinda fun to flip through and apply to your own words in an out of the internet. See where you goof a little you know? I'm guilty of a couple even right now, but it's nothing to be ashamed of.

Cortana obviously redesigned it with her nano-bot army. I hear AI have a thing for putting huge missile courtyards onto things.

Yeah, because it eases new players into the game more smoothly and because the primary aesthetic differences in the armors have been due to graphical enhancements. I see no reason for the various iterations to actually look different at all. Either way, I don't care. The armor was retconned so now it's correct.

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

How did Chief's armor upgrade to Spartan IV?

343 has been sneaking little tidbits about nanobots in the armor into the books.

It's their excuse for why its different: cortana did it while MC was sleeping. That's why he doesnt have a cod piece anymore. ; )

That is not why. Mk VI armor doesn't have the nanobots. His armor was retconned for artistic purposes, which is why it appears in the opening cinematic. That is why it still has the giant gash on the chestpiece and numerous scratches.

If my memory serves me right, Chief was wearing the same set of armor from Halo 2 to the end of Halo 3. Then Cortana upgraded his armor while he was in cryo.

No, she upgraded his armors HUD software.

Death to rank junkies.

What made me rage more was the fact that 343 had the nerve to show Elites using plasma rifles in the prologue, and then not let you use them in the actual game.

Okay. Thrusters are thrusters; they'll still work in-atmosphere, they'll just be less powerful, which is why they were just used to soften a short drop.
Unless my understanding of physics is completely wrong, an EVA thruster that has enough force to slow down 2 tons of heavy duty armor into something that doesn't crater the floor would likely cause the Spartan to rocket into a celestial body if he so much tapped the thrust.

And that explanation STILL doesn't explain why we're only now seeing this.
