What made me rage more was the fact that 343 had the nerve to show Elites using plasma rifles in the prologue, and then not let you use them in the actual game.
The prolouge was set back when they used plasma rifles, in the past, whereas Halo 4 is set when they are using the sucsesor weapon, the Storm rifle.

Because it's only a video game. Something a lot of you cannot comprehend.

Shepard it is something you cannot comprehend.

Oh Yes!

Bungie messed up their own canon.

But they still show MC's current armour instead of what it was in Halo CE?

I see no reason for the various iterations to actually look different at all.

Because canonically they were?

This seems to be something quite a few of you don't seem to grasp.

The armor, for whatever reason, be it artistic license for clarity for beginners or just a desire to make the armors' appearance more consistent, has been retconned. That is what MJOLNIR looked like throughout its iterations according to 343i canon. It was not nanobots, they did not mess up what armor they used before Halo CE...the armor is retconned.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

So when they say they respect the lore, I'll know they're lying then.

Are people really still raging over the whole magical jetpack thing? Jesus people.

The Spartan II's always had thrusters. Read the damn books you lazy bastard.
The fact you have to direct people to the books (or other parts of the Halo universe external to the game(s)) only serves to reinforce how badly told the story was.
Agree with this 100%. Halo is a video game and should remain a video game. I don't want to read a bunch of books just to fill in the plotholes.

(To discuss Halo 4.)

They changed it for art reasons.

And FYI, anyone who says "Halo 4 directing X person to the EU makes it a badly told story" is kind of missing the whole point about the Bungie games, not only did they have massive gaps that had to be filled by the EU, they heavily retconned it.

One thing 343i did right, at least plot wise, is they didn't retcon the EU, they actually advanced it.

I change shapes just to hide in this place but im still im still an animal...

She just upgraded the software in his suit nothing else.
As for the new look thats just how 343 wanted the armour to look with thier artisitc liscense. Ever seen the alien films?
They were different in every film. Also spartans apparantly always had thrusters i think.

Translation: WAAAAH IM TOO LAZY TO READ!!

OT: Yes they do need to deliver the story with as little plot holes as possible without having to read the books. But if the plotholes are somehow fixed and explained so what? Better than leaving them unexplained.

Because all the Bungie games after CE are a shining example of good storytelling...

Also, I swear you people would complain about anything, without actually using your brains. A PELICAN DROPS THEM OFF AND THEY USE THRUSTERS. Watch the video before you act like morons.

The Prologue exemplifies how Halo 4 was rushed. All of the Elites are minors! Would it kill for some variety?

Which reminds me, since when do standard Knights use Scattershots? The Scanned trailer was just as bad (but much more enjoyable to watch).

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

March 3, 2553

They have always had 'thruster packs'. But not jetpacks. 343i's way of saying F you, this is our game and we will have our way with it.

Just like the terrible multiplayer.

That is what I was wondering. Why couldnt have 343 just let them drop in with drop pods. And have them wear mark 5 armor and the elites their original armor not storm armor.

343 have to change everything for no reason

I also hated how the covenant ship was a few shades too dark for my liking. And dont even get me started on the rock next to the first Spartans left foot....

I put it this way.

Spartans always had thruster packs for 0g movement, also in Halo 3 he came down on some metal.

Now, did you see the metal in the cutscene? No? Then he most likely jumped and forgot to use his thruster packs.

Mfw everyone in this thread is upset about minor things or things that were explained anyways.....

The Spartans jumped from a Pelican, and use their thruster packs....something we've known they all had for a while. And it's not like they jumped from a massive distance either.

As for why they had Chief's armor? Artistic purposes. It was Halsey retelling a story on how great Spartans were, it's fitting she would all make them look like Chief, "the best Spartan". Plus, for a gameplay reason players would be confused if they saw Spartans wearing armor that looked radically different than what Chief wore.

And also, why do all the Spartans have armor Cortana custom made for Chief?

That Prologue was crap.

Cortana didn't do anything. The armor was retconned.

OT: Spartan armor always had thrusters for EVA maneuvering in space.

Yet it still doesn't make sense in terms of the canon. If that is indeed Mk.VI...then how do the other Spartans have it before Halo 4, Halo 3, Halo 2 or Halo:CE?

Because bungie didnt put it there

I doubt a Jet pack is going to be of much use when you're falling from orbit.
It worked for those Spartans in the prologue.
Actually if you looked closely as the Spartans decend you see 2 pelicans flying off.

Those Pelicans dropped off the Spartans who had to jump out due to a hot LZ.

  • 12.14.2012 4:40 AM PDT

MJOLNIR had in-built thrusters for zero-gee movement. For the sake of landing, it could slow their descent.

  • 12.14.2012 4:42 AM PDT

They are thruster packs, not as strong as jet packs but they assist in gaining height when needed.

Master Chiefs thruster pack wouldnt have aided him all that much since he was travelling so fast and from such a great height.
