"It is the cruelest fate, to have written words that meant well and see them made wicked and unwise. What was meant to encourage life, used instead to justify taking it."
I saw the movie just a half hour ago, and I think it was amazing. Martin Freeman was the perfect Bilbo Baggins, and likewise for Richard Armitage as Thorin. The scenery is gorgeous and the special effects are truly impressive. I could care less about the added CGI, at least it looked good and wasn't used to a George Lucas level.
The conflict with Thorin and Bilbo was done well, and I love the way they portray Thorin's distrust for the Elves because [FUTURE SPOILER ALERT] those of us who have read the book know his faith will be restored at the Battle of the Five Armies, which will make for an interesting character development. I LOVED the introduction. The way Erebor was portrayed, the political ties with the dwarves and the elves, the devastation of Smaug's attack, it was all done perfectly.
The White Council/Dol Guldur plot may have little effect on the overall story at this time, but I'm looking forward to the Necromancer really starting to gain power. However, I'm not so sure about what I think of the change in Azog's story, with him surviving the War of Dwarves and Orcs and becoming Thorin's sworn enemy. But, I digress.
This movie was worth the wait, and I'm eager to see it again.
