Subject: JRPG games.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

What happened to them? :(

Yeah those things....

  • 12.14.2012 3:41 AM PDT

Rain, and Jazz.
Halo: Tactical

I'm either a fool or an inteligent man, depending on how sleepy or angry I am.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

FPS happened to JRPGs, OP.

They're still there. Though they're not as popular as they were in the 90s-early 2000s.

There's some really good ones on 360 though there hasn't been many recently.

There are still some great JRPGs. Probably the most popular one in recent memory is Dark Souls.

Even though it's Japanese and an RPG, I've never seen Dark Souls as a JRPG.

I always think of JRPGs as games like Lost Odyssey, Final Fantasy, The Last Remnant etc

I wish Lost Odyssey would've gotten a sequel or something, the game was brilliant. It felt more FF game than crap Square Enix has been putting for sale after FFX.

For 360, I've played Tales Of Vesperia, Eternal Sonata & Lost Odyssey. I want moar D:

Is Star Ocean any good?

Edit: Dark Souls is JRPG? It doesn't look like one o.o

It's a JRPG. JRPG =! turn based, or anything like that. It's a JRPG.

Star Ocean is pretty good. Also try out Nier, it's really heartbreaking.

A sequel to Lost Odyssey would be awesome.

If you haven't played it I'd recommend The Last Remnant (though installing it is essential) as the story's pretty good but it has a unique and interesting spin on the battle system where you fight as several groups of people rather than just several individuals.

I really wanted to enjoy Star Ocean:TLH (and it's meant to be excellent) but the voice talent was absolutely terrible and I traded it in rather than spend hours listening to characters whose voices were like nails down a blackboard.

You realise that Dark Souls is unique in its styling compared to other JRPGs and, as such, does not fit the overall theme.

I wasn't saying it's not a JRPG just that I never think of it as a traditional JRPG.

Theme and gameplay style don't disqualify it as a JRPG. It's an Action JRPG, but still a JRPG. It's like saying that Deus Ex is not an RPG because it doesn't play like The Witcher.

To an extent you are right but Dark Souls is seen as being incredibly Westernized in terms of gameplay, theme etc so it's understandable why I feel it shouldn't be put in the same category as traditional JRPGs such as FF.

Well, I've been economical with the truth.

I wish for their glory days on the PS2 to return!

...But it's still an RPG developed in Japan, hence the JRPG tag. It doesn't matter if you don't want to classify it as such but it is.

Way to miss my point, dude. It's must also be a very literal world you live in.

EDIT - The guy above me understands.

If you are referring to me, I can't play Xenoblade Chronicles, I don't have Wii. I wish I would, I'd love to play The Last Story.

I am almost done the Last story. It is a great game, but Xenoblade is easily the best Jrpg I have played in awhile. You are missing out terribly. If you have a ps2, get the Xenosaga series.

How is Nobuo's music in the game? Compares to masterpieces he composed to FF games?

And I've played the Xenosaga games. I guess I'll give The Last Remnant or Star Ocean a try. Thanks for the replies everyone.

The PS3 quite a few.

I'm sure most of these are PS3 exclusive.

I haven't played it, but I heard Valkyria Chronicles is really good.
