Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

Just wanna put this in perspective:

Sandy Hook is a k-4 school, which means all students are under 11 years old; most under 10.

I really am having problems with this.

I am too. I'm sick of these things happening for a multitude of reasons, and am sickened by these men.

Me too. As a teacher, my first concern is always the safety of the students. I don't even know how I would handle this situation if I was in a classroom of 7 and 8 year olds, instead of 17 and 18 year olds...

It would be horrific either way, but your point is not lost on me. No one wants to see children die...

Must you be so dramatic? Thousands of children that age and younger die of hunger, disease, and other things every day.

This is a pretty -blam!- up day but is comparatively no different than any other day in this -blam!- up world. Society mourns about this one day and then turns around and glorifies the same violence in entertainment and media.

Humans complain about everything but repeat the same mistakes 5 minutes later again and again.

The moment you choose to kill somebody in cold blood is the moment you lose your humanity. You have no right to bear the title of human if you are that warped and distorted in the mind.

They are living monsters, not human.

Edit: Nevermind, I overreacted. I apologize. But it's stupid to say that tons of children die and that somehow diminishes the impact of these deaths.

When Columbine happened, it was almost understandable. Being one of the kids that wore a black trenchcoat, being an outsider, I could almost understand what led up to it.

It doesn't condone it in the slightest, but I could at least see the chain of events that creates that kind of person.

This though...

Like I said, I'm in the middle of an adoption. I just can't see how one could hurt his own kid like that.

I need to turn the news off. This is really disturbing to me.

It's still ridiculously easy. You're also forgetting the fact that because guns are easy to get, more guns will be produced and they will be cheaper, making them available for more people. That also helps spreading them illegally.

I'm not saying restricting gun laws will solve the problem completely, it's just part of the process. But it needs to be done.
Except that's not true at all. This article examines a broad range of international data that bear on two distinct but interrelated questions: first, whether widespread firearm access is an important contributing factor in murder and/or suicide, and second, whether the introduction of laws that restrict general access to firearms has been successful in reducing violent crime, homicide or suicide. Our conclusion from the available data is that suicide, murder and violent crime rates are determined by basic social, economic and/or cultural factors with the availability of any particular one of the world's myriad deadly instrument being irrelevant.

Gun nuts will take freedom over safety, although they have convinced themselves that they are the same thing.
And the anti-gun nuts endanger us all. Shootings predominantly take place in "gun free zones." Why? Because of a lack of armed opposition. This is the world you advocate.

People hurt their own kids all the time. What's out of the ordinary here is why this parent decided to take other people's kids along with them.

Killing of the young and innocent is... wrong, obviously. They had so much to live for, so much to do. So many bright futures. All darkened by the actions of two men.

Really guys?

You have 27 people dead, a majority of them being children, and this thread has turned into a derailed "Guns are bad!" thread.

Save your stupid arguments about the validity of the second amendment for another day. It's not needed now.

It breaks my heart to see the news reporters interviewing the kids. The things they are saying about seeing bodies, SWAT Officers, their friends dead...

I really just can't process this.

So in addition to killing his own kid he killed one of his parents, too? WTF.

It's a natural reaction. People want something or someone to blame. Even though I disagree entirely with their views (these things would happen even if guns were illegal) but I can understand why they would say this.

Our reaction to these things is entirely predictable. I just can't imagine what it would feel like to be a parent of a student in that school - even if their kid is OK.
