Subject: Should fat people be charged more on airlines?

Yes. It's not fair to raise normal people's fares because of fat people taking up two seats or weighing too much. It's their own fault and they can pay for themselves.

Some airline will charge really fat people for two seats.

My DeviantArt Gallery - For my Photoshop stuff, go have a look!

If they take up enough of a second seat for a person to not be able to sit there comfortably, I wouldn't be concerned if they had to pay for a second seat.

But I wouldn't suggest anything else.

Also, they are. Most obese people are told that they must buy a second seat.

That makes the most sense, not to mention the amount gained from an additional seat sale will be far more than that made by a "$/pound" charge.

Should you be charged on the basis of your weight on aeroplanes? It would be logical to charge passengers per kilogram of mass as the quantity of fuel required by the plane is directly proportional to the total weight of the plane - if you represent a greater strain in terms of fuel, you should pay a higher fee than people who consume a lower quantity of fuel, no?

Due to the limited availability of seats on an airplane, there should be a fixed base price, with modifiers added on depending on your weight.

Edit: The modifiers wouldn't be an arbitarily chosen amount - it would be roughly equal to the price of the additional fuel required to compensate for the additional weight of the person.

Only a small minority of fat people acknowledge their size and would buy a second ticket though.

There are quite a few that should have bought two tickets that waddle themselves down the aisle and try and cram themselves into a coach seat - and anyone who flies knows how uncomfortable coach seats are for normal sized people as it is.

Just roll them into the cargo bay and bill them as freight.

True. But if a change was to be made, having the airline determine whether a passanger needs two seats or not is far more practical than imposing a rate by weight.
