EU leaders have agreed on a roadmap for eurozone integration beyond the deal on centralised banking supervision, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said.

Speaking after the summit talks, French President Francois Hollande said: "There is no doubt today about the integrity of the eurozone - Europe cannot now be taken by surprise."

Has Europe rediscovered its mojo?

The banking union is just one part of a plan, drawn up by the EU's bigwigs, that will eventually lead to the creation of a "fiscal union" - the direct transfer of money from taxpayers in one part of the EU to help citizens in another, much as happens within any nation state

The German viewpoint can be summed up as: "No taxation without representation". They will seek a grand bargain with Europe.

What is more, the europhile German Foreign Minister, Guido Westerwelle, and 10 of his European peers have drawn up a plan for a full-blown political union, including a common military.

So it looks like the wheels on the European Superstate has started to move and going to pick up its pace pretty quickly I imagine.

The problem is some nations want the superstate while others like Britain don't, at least not yet. Chances are Britain will work with the EU economy and Military from the out side since every EU member acknowledges Britains importance in those 2 area's.

One German was quoted saying "Without British military hardware and expertise the EU military will be like a knife without a blade".

What do you think about the emerging European Superstate??

It's funny Europe is one of the smallest continents and yet combined its the most powerful and important continent than any other.

Great things come in small packages.

But it has to be combined in order to be that powerful. Individually, only France, England, and Germany are important, relatively speaking.

Good luck prying the GBP from Britain's cold, dead hands.

They'll never give up that currency freedom, especially after this fiasco.

Why would Germany further risk destroying their booming economy by moving to create a European super state? They are the only Euro using country that is doing well. Now they want to destroy that? How odd...

This would be good for them but I better not see an American colony, Britannia colony, and Japanese colony like in all those anime shows haha. That is unless they can all get along.

They are too far attached to the EU to just pick up and abandon at this point. So unfortunately, they are continually on the hook for bailing out Greece and everyone else when problems arise.

Their hope is more centralized power and control will allow them to better exert control over problem nations like Greece. Greece continues to express unwillingness to undergo austerity or fix its problems.

You centralize everything and Germany still holds a lot of power as a big state - both in population and economic output. Its power remains relatively unchanged, but now it can better mandate and force weaker nations (who are also typically smaller nations) to follow its economic plans.

I was gonna say something along these lines, but it probably wouldn't seem as funny now.

Still, OT, it's probably not gonna happen.

Not going to happen, the people in Europe don't exactly support it.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

The Black Chapter!

Policy integration in many areas is a vital tool in the long term wellbeing of the member states. Full on unification is probably a step too far, but that's one for smarter people than me to argue over.

Right now no they don't.

I'll be honest until this is sorted I don't want to be in the EU, however if a EU superstate is created with no problems you bet Britain will join.

France, Germany and Britain are the key nations in the 27 member union. 2 out 3 just won't work.

I would say think of the UK and how that works.

We have an annexed Wales and a politically combined England and Scotland. I suppose the EU will work in a similar manner.

A fiscal and economic union may work, but a political union won't. Nationalist sentiment will prevent a political union from working. Euro-skeptic and nationalist parties have been doing better in elections lately, so closer European integration will only cause these parties to gain more strength.

Indeed. Europe is the world's largest economy. The only question is when, not if, enough political union to see the organisation as a whole leads to Europe becoming the world's greatest superpower.
