Those are the ones that made the news because they play on your emotions.

Do you try and dig up other stories that don't make the major networks or the TV time of your local news outlet? How many gun murders do you follow that don't make the news? The ones in inner cities or dirt poor rural areas?

The difference in this type of crime is what happened. I'm not talking about violent crime. Violent crime does happen everywhere. I am talking about the type of mass shooting that happened today.
So, mass shootings are more important to have emotions over than smaller scale shootings? I'm not sure I understand your point.

My point is that I don't feel emotionally one way or the other, whether it's a mass shooting or a smaller shooting. If I did, who are the feelings for? I don't know the people involved so it's not for them. Are the emotions purely for myself so I don't feel like such an egocentric selfish person who has no care for anyone in the world?

If I hear about something like this my only thoughts are "That's sad, hope the families try to find something close to semblance of how things once were and used to be."

And I certainly don't use the situation to try and get a point across :ie ban all guns, ban autmotaic guns, ban handguns, everyone talk to a stranger, how can we stop this, be nice to a homeless, hug a friend or whatever else silly notions come into people's heads when something like this happens.

My Screenshots / My Group / Remember to follow the rules or you will get trapped in a box.

If guns were removed from the US and the government focused on it's people instead of a military that isn't needed right now then maybe violence would be much lower. Look at us, Canada. We rarely have any murders here. Why? We focus on internal affairs and have no guns. Guns don't protect anyone, they just cause problems. Of course the 'MURICA types that are all "My country is the best because I can defend myself here," prevent guns from getting removed from the country.

Look for yourself

The trend is a loner who kills himself right after the act. Very few are caught.
No, I'm going to stop right there.

You need to provide legitimate evidence.

There source you privided was:
(a) Biased
(b) Made to fit a goal. We need a long timeline. Not just since Columbine. We need a list of all of them since maybe the 1800's
(c)Doesn't say anything about them being loners.

You know, I'm starting to think you are one of the "loners" you are talking about. I don't care who you interact with on a daily basis, that's not what excludes you from being a "loner."

The self-loathing you do is creating other "loners" including yourself. Self-Loathing on a Video Game website is pretty much being a "loner."

And as a loner, you're just a time-bomb. Tick-tock.

It certainly does bear asking why the number of "psychopath" incidents seems to be so much higher in the US than elsewhere.
Exactly.

Especially since things haven't always been this way.
I blame online social networking in all forms. Without proper human interaction all humans will lose their minds eventually.

Humans are violent pathetic creatures who have repeated the same mistakes for thousands of years. Nothing is going to change anytime soon - at least not in our lifetime.

Because everyone thinks that every member of my religion is evil and a killer I'm gonna reply to this thread by saying this country is great and everyone is great. That way I avoid any problems.

Because he's a self-loather and a no faith in humanity kind of person. The kind of person that goes on killing rampages.

Stop hating humanity.

You can argue gun control, but that doesn't address the true and real problem. Incidents like today's would happen with or without guns. Sure, the body count would be lower, but an incident would have still happened.
Is this not preferable?

I live in Australia. According to Wikipedia there have only been two recorded shootings at schools here (which were both Universities).

I mean this.

We have become a cold and uncaring people. We do our best to avoid contact, and look to take no responsibility for our own actions. We feel entitled to things we do not earn, and get angry and resentful when we don't get what we want.

Now, we want a fix. A cute thing we can put on a bumper sticker, a cop out like a shirt or rubber bracelet.

Be good to one another. Strike up a conversation with a stranger and make a connection. Let's end this path we are on. Yeah, its awkward, but by fixing what's really wrong will we prevent tragedies like today.

I understood what you said and agree about loners.
I am saying why are you singling out and picking on America when this occurs in every first world country?

Because I am an American. I can't go and fix the problems in Afghanistan or China. Their citizens have to look for themselves. A Chinese citizen didn't come over from Beijing to stab American students. No, that was one of ours.

If we want to be Reagan's "Shining City on the Hill" for the rest of the world, we need to fix ourselves.

Okay, you can still mention how "you want to fix America" and stuff, but I respectfully am asking you to change your title from "In the US, we are a sick society" to something that concerns all humans.
I told you. There is no way to fix all things in the world. We can fix our society though.

Okay, so say that all countries are having this bad trend of loners, and then mention how you can fix it in America. There's no need to insult America this much. Your same point will be made exactly, so why not change it to not be so offensive?

You didn't respond to this.

Australia also has like a tenth of America's population.

Its not just the US... and its actually much worse in most countries around the world. The human race has many "sick individuals." Or as I like to call them, scum bags, who are born bad and can never be fixed.

Yeah. Hes a self-lothing, humanity hating one, too.

Those kinds of people, are the ones who go and murder. They don't want to help. They want to whine about how much they hate the human race, on a video-game website. People who don't help humanity in any way, and feel the need to try and fix the problem themselves, by killing.

Stop hating humanity.

Humanity is great. The majority have done great things to better the lives of others. Humans are good at heart and will continue to enjoy life, and help others enjoy it as well.

Humanity will always help each other out. It's what we do.

Saying that Americans are sick people... Ok, but seriously look a little closer at the rest of the world. America is quite preferably than like 95% of the rest of the world. I mean you could live in Syria. That place really sucks.

I haven't been alive long enough to see trends?

I have.

And I said what I did about you based on your own post. I only know about you what you tell me.

And the weird kids are the ones that flip. They may do nothing. They may hurt themselves, or in the worst case, others.

The point is that its the lack of human connection that causes people to flip. Its the one thing they all share. We created a society that revels in the convenience that makes this type of person not just possible, but commonplace.

This one of the reasons I love going back to Mexico. The town I visit, everyone says hi to one another when passing by.

Even in Africa there are places where it is pretty much looked down upon to not take notice of another person. Someone walking towards you? Smile and say hi. What do the majority of people do here? And if your open enough to reach out to someone, what is the most likely expression they will have of you here in US?

I agree Charlie, with all you have said. I know im not as opened as you want the US to be, but Ive told myself that my kids will not as shy as me. Ill try to put them on the right track to be very outgoing with their activities and other people.

We might not be able to change our generation, but the one our generation will spawn. They might have a chance to make a change.

That's why my family and I moved to the American South East, specifically Alabama. Everyone here is nice, and in the case of your whole hand shaking, smiling scenario... Do that, you may get stuck in a conversation haha. You're only thinking about where you live perhaps. in the parts of Africa I've been to, I've been sneered at, and in Germany, mostly simply ignored

MEDIC!

First off I agree completely however let me say this. Anything ANYTHING, f**king anything, that has the potential to save a life can and should be an objective.

Your wrong on this point
Posted by: MyNameIsCharlie

Other methods of preventing these all too frequent tragedies should be taken. Whether through education, media, or no private gun sales without a background check (gun show loophole), we should look to multiple options. Guns in America aren't going away, it's too ingrained into this country, but we can prevent people like these -blam!- mentally insane monsters from getting even a air-soft gun.

But as a Navy Corpsman (Medic) in training anything that saves a life, especially children, should be taken.

Civilians should not be carrying a .223 Bushmaster rifle (AR-15), it kills too easily, deer can be killed with a bolt action just fine.
