You realize how hard banning guns would be, correct? Many people saying guns should be banned probably doesn't know a thing about the Cartel either.]
That, and we kind of have this thing called the 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights. If the government were to take away this right, what is there to say that they couldn't take away our First Amendment rights?
The role of the Second Amendment is not to arm crazy people with guns to go and do shootings, it is to protect the American people from the federal government.
"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule of India, history will look back upon the Act depriving the whole nation of arms as the blackest" -Ghandi.
Ghandi-the progressive icon of his day, believed that arms were needed for a free and peaceful state.
We already have excellent gun control laws in this country, enforced, background checks and waiting periods work excellently in controlling weaponry.
What this country has is a crime problem. Gang creation due to poverty in major population centers creates crime and drug trade, which pulls in cartels, and weapon trading.
And as for the whole school shooting argument, you're missing the point, Guns aren't needed to commit atrocities. Simple murder has happened since the beginning of time, guns are in fact very hard to actually kill someone with.
It is much easier to hit someone upside the head with a baseball bat than accurately aim a .45 caliber pistol. And even then, only 5% of gunshot wounds are lethal, you have to hit the target in the heart, the spinal cord, or the "lethal T" of the head, most gunshot victims die of internal hemmoraging or blood loss/shock.
So by gun banner's standards, we should ban baseball bats as well, and knives, and anything that can be used to hurt everyone ever, it leads to a nanny state mentality that gets MORE people hurt.
Logistics of our continental nation aside, you have to be able to defend yourself. There are counties in Montana twice the size of the state of Vermont, in these counties there is one sherrif's department with 8 deputies. Even here in Minnesota, our local PD only has a dozen or so guys on call at night. There have been times here when I've had to get my shotgun because someone has tried breaking into my house.
When seconds count, the police are minutes away.
So yes, terrible tragedies happen, yes guns are involved in some of them, but murder and crime happens regardless of what laws are involved because as it turns out, criminals don't follow laws.
So don't ruin the fun of millions of [i]responsible gun owners[/i[ with your holier-than-thou attitude.
