If I can't have a gun the cops should not be able to use guns.

No, who will stop the criminals?

Some places in the world use this logic. Correct me if I'm wrong anybody, but don't some European nations keep their officers unarmed?

That's why so many European cops get killed

Obviously you don't understand a witty and subtle allusion to British law enforcement.

But if there are no guns how would the criminals get guns?

Oh wait, they're criminals! They will just obtain guns illegally and since law abiding citizens won't be able to legally own guns then they can't defend themselves in the event of a home invasion or mugging.

Well you, like many aimless fools in this forum seem to not realize, that are some places in the US where civilians legitly need guns to protect themselves from threats such as gangs, murders, and muggers.

In areas like those, threats like that are more common than what you'd expect in your own town.

OMGZZ!!!!!!

"It's Afghanistanimation!"

I carry, I have a license to do so. The difference between me and them besides the obvious mental stability. I am trained on how and when to use it. It is a total LAST RESORT defense for myself and my family when I am out with them.

So you want to take away my piece of mind and security in case one of these people decide to go open season on me and my family? Well then I must say this. SCREW YOU! Do you know how long these little engagements happen? Mere seconds and the chances of a Cop being around then are very slim. They would be there in minutes, and that would be long after the fight had ended. I need the protection there when it is most important.

How do I protect myself from the criminals if I don't have a gun? If I can't have one the cops can't have guns. What's stopping a cop from commiting murder?

It is my opinion that Cops should be the ones who should have guns, not civilians

I hate MLP. It is cancerous and pretty stupid to see men watching a show for girls. They can deny the truth but the truth shall prevail!

So how many people are there that own guns?
How many of those people kill civilians?

  • 12.14.2012 2:57 PM PDT

How about instead of doing that, I don't go and shoot a bunch of people and keep my guns anyway?

Yeah, I think I'll do that.

OK, easy:

Illegal or not, people are going to get guns. Drugs are illegal and yet more people die from overdoses than school shootings. No one is up in arms and looking for solutions to that, are they?

Legal or illegal the problem will persist.
Yes, criminals will still get guns, but it'll be a very rare and small amount. I rather have only %1 (or less) of American's own guns, then knowing when I walk around the streets that %50 (or more?) of all American's own guns.

There's a neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia (I think) that requires its residents to own a firearm, and they have one of the lowest crime rates in the city.

50%? Where did you get that statistic from? And yes, fewer people will have guns. But those who are filled with such hate they are going to kill people will still get their guns.

School shootings and mass murders will not decrease in number with the 2nd Amendment revoked.

You realize you are implying the average gun owner is walking around and up and decides to shoot up a school.

I don't think I agree with this comparison.

Drug overdoses are harm done unto one's self. Shootings, like Sandy Hook, is harm done unto others. I would be putting a higher priority on people running around killing the innocent rather than drug addicts killing themselves.

  • 12.14.2012 3:01 PM PDT

If you're going to commit murder you're going to find a gun legally or illegally.

Haha I really pulled those numbers out of thin air, both of them, hence the (... ?).

I don't know the exact number of households that own a gun in America, but if I remember, someone made a thread earlier this year about how guns sales are really high this year according to past years?

Also, yes it would decrease the number of school shootings. Considering a good amount of school shootings are from stressed out Teens, who has EASY access to a weapon (be it from home and already owning one, to even buying one) I really, really doubt an angry 16 year old has the resources and connection to go to the black market, and buy a gun, or have one custom made.

Nor does the average person. Sure, shootings and deaths would still happen, but you can not say that they will not decrease when guns are so limited and hard to get.

It's a town, actually

And apparently it was ranked in the top ten towns to live in.
