We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand and of overwhelming force on the other.

I am an American patriot. I love the idea's of Free Speech, Freedom of Expression, and the idea of freedom in general. I think the country's geography is stunningly beautiful and in many cases breathtaking. I feel safe at night in America with our Law Enforcement and Armed Forces on watch 24/7.

That doesn't mean that I love the corrupt government that screws a lot of people over.

So why does this make me a bad person? Why do so many people here think this is stupid? Are you not proud of Germany, Britain, or Canada?

I don't think that being patriotic makes you a bad person. I'm not patriotic at all, but why would I care that you are?

I think being proud of a place you had no control over being born in is rather silly.

I just don't like that freedom has became an excuse for gun violence

I'm not proud that I was born on a particular strip of dirt, there's a lot more to it than that.

Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it.
- George Bernard Shaw
Many see patriotism as selfless, I would argue the opposite is true.

Way to bring in gun control to a thread that's not about it at all.

Having lived in a third world country for two years... I can honestly say that I absolutely love the United States with all my heart, and am eternally grateful to live here, instead of in a place where tragedies happen on a lot more frequent basis.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
-Douglas Adams

Patriotism in itself is a silly and childish idea.

And it's ironic hearing about Americans talking about free speech like it's exclusive to them. And freedom? Freedom to do what? All 1st world countries have "freedom".

This Thread would not have happened without all the Anti American sentiment after the shooting

Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.

That is synonymous with saying the increase in the amount of harvest moons have lead to more people eating icecream.

What you can prove is correlation, what you're assuming you can prove is causation.

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.
