Okay, I'd like to offer my opinions.
I like guns. I like guns a lot. My family owns about a combined two dozen collectively, and I often go out shooting with them. It's fun, and it's cool. The moment I move out, I plan on buying a weapon. Yes, I even plan on buying a large, automatic assault weapon and several handguns that I can easily conceal. Why? Because I like guns, that's why.
However, does this mean that I dislike gun control? No. Hell no. I agree with everyone who says that gun control in our country is flawed. If some random asshole can get an automatic weapon off the streets for a hundred bucks, there's clearly something very wrong with our control system. Depending on the laws of the state that control is held in it can become way too easy to get these kind of weapons, or any weapons really. What needs to happen is a federal system of firearms regulation that, while keeping dangerous weapons away from dangerous people, gives access to those who wish to possess them who will absolutely not misuse them. I'm talking background checks, psych evaluations, the whole deal. Maybe grade gun permits under this system on different levels to tell people what they can and can't possess. I don't know, I don't make the rules. But what I do know is that someone should make these rules and enforce them on a federal level.
So no, an assault weapon ban is not in order. However, an actual system of regulation that isn't broken as all hell is.
