Subject: Do you find the Prometheans a challenge to defeat?

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

It doesn't matter if it was your first time playing or if you just played yesterday on legendary; do you find Prometheans actually challenging? With their various weapons, teamwork with Crawlers and Watchers, and their abilities to teleport, they felt like a true adversary. What did you think of them flood?

No.

Wow, just wow!

Never.

They simply never proved themselves as a challenge.

My only difficulty with them was how much ammo it takes to kill one. I constantly switched weapons on Legendary difficulty.

But as a whole, they never stalled me for long.

They are just as challenging as the Covenant, but a nice change of pace in combat.

They are too predictable.

Not really. They're easy to fight and counter. It's just the amount of damage they take on Legendary that makes them a -blam!- to fight.

On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.

The only Prometheans that ever gave me significant trouble were the ones equipped with the Binary Rifle. My great Sagan's turtleneck, I hated those things.

Artificial difficulty

Do you fear Death?

I suck at Halo so yes, doesn't help that those floating bastards instantly revive them after I had just killed them either.

Campaign: Pretty manageable. The Knights rarely rush compared to the Elites. It's only frustrating when there's a lack of cover or if you're stuck with weapons which aren't suitable for approaching (looks at Binary Rifle). Most can easily be skipped. Marines can be saved and can be useful for the holdout battle on Infinity.

Spartan Ops: Spams 10+ Watchers at you every time. Throws several Battlewagons at you. You have to kill every single enemy to progress and marines often get wiped out before the battle even begins... unless they're in a Hog like on the Ragnarok mission.

No they are not a challenge. They're just annoying/frustrating.

A worthwhile challenge is a CE Elite. Otherwise, there are no real challenges. Everything Halo 2 and up just uses cheap methods.

What change in pace? It's still camping, it's still taking out the mooks from a safe distance, it's still the enemies 'expecting you and knowing where you are if you throw a grenade'... And you can still rush the main troop (Knights) and prevail. The only major difference is the Watcher which is much more important to kill than an Engineer.

Aside from Knights being ridiculous bullet-sponges, they were fine.

When flooded with Crawlers, Watchers and then the Knights, why the challenge they gave was like repetitive email spam; annoying, lots of it, and then they'd disappear.

Me: "Damn, I spent five minutes killing this one Promethean, and I'm almost out of ammo! Glad that's over!"

Watcher: "Hello there..."

There only a challenge when paired up with those annoying little repair drones or in big groups. Knights with launchers can kill you multiple times just by looking at you...

Spartan Ops on legendary with lots of ctawlers and watchers are a pain to fight, you can't prioritise any of them since they all swarm you.

It takes many respawns before you can clear them and then the game spawns more with Knights.

  • 12.14.2012 4:36 PM PDT

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Not really, they just take different steps to kill. Once you figure out what works best, it's only really a problem if there are multiple Knights, Watchers, and Crawlers.

The last level on Legendary where Cortana hacks those turrets. Mother of god the amount of Crawlers that come at you. That area still gives me nightmares.

Oh Jesus, I know what you mean. On co-op, my friends and I would just charge ahead, and the first man would typically get bathed in Scattershot/Binary Rifle fire. They'd tell us which it was, and we'd then go in as a whole to annihilate them.

Not to mention those turrets being completely worthless...
