Subject: Perhaps certain people should have guns at schools

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

My school had at least two armed police officers there at any given time. My school never had any violent incidents.

Why people can't realize that people are the problem, not guns, is beyond me. Why Europeans want to force their laws on us is beyond me too. This country was founded by people that left Europe to start a new life.

That was 200 years ago!

Stop being so damn stubborn.
Guns are made to kill people. End of story.

No, they're made to fire a projectile at high velocities. What the end user does is up to the individual, not the tool.

There are guns made specifically for competition.

If I wanted to live in Europe, I would move to Europe. But, guess what? I don't want to live in Europe, and every country doesn't need to be like Europe. What works for country A does not necessarily work for country B.

And school kids don't want to get shot.

Please no WW2 talk about whether the bomb should have been dropped or not, that is off topic here. Go make another thread about that.

I went to Google and typed in "fat people keyboards."
All I saw pretty much was an advice column and fat jokes. :(
I do not think they make them.

Well..

SRO's are just that. If they're outnumbered, they then call for back-up.

For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

The Imperial Army was equipping those same civilians to basically do suicidal attacks on advancing US troops should we reach the mainland. Casualties on both sides would have been much higher if we didn't use the bombs. We chose the lesser of two evils. Was it horrible? Yes. I'm not arguing that, but would you rather have the war drag on for several more years, claiming another million lives, or would you rather end the war quickly?

Remember, though guns are used as a tool for evil, in these school shootings, the guns are not evil themselves.

They are made to kill people. Saying they're not a tool for evil is like saying a hydrogen bomb is "Peaceful".

But it was used as a means to obtain peace, wasn't it?

No.
The bombs were dropped because the US wanted to test them on a real "target".

The war was pretty much already over. The bombs were unnecessary, Japan would have surrendered (eventually).
There was no need to kill hundreds of thousands of civilians who had little to nothing to do with the war.

Umm you do know that some Japanese Generals were planning to assassinate the emperor and continue the war, even after the first bomb was dropped right?

Yes I know but they would have failed.
Killing civilians just to "send a message" was never necessary.

Life passes most people by while they're making grand plans for it. Throughout my lifetime, I've left pieces of my heart here and there. And now, there's almost not enough to stay alive. But I force a smile, knowing that my ambition far exceeded my talent. There are no more white horses or pretty ladies at my door.

It is a saddening, and frankly disturbing reflection of your society in which your solution to these events is to willingly advocate the arming of school staff.

Why not? Can you give me a good/legitimate argument in why that is not a good idea? And please no......"GUNS ARE EVILZ" argument.

What is wrong with having a cop like person at the school protecting it from evil doers?

No they wouldn't. Not civilian casualties.

No, they're made to fire a projectile at high velocities.

In order to kill someone. Your argument is like saying the point of a knife is to be sharp. That's part of how it functions, not the purpose of having a knife.

Knives have a variety of purposes. You can cut things, use them to spread things, potentially you can use a knife to unscrew something, etc.

Guns kill people.

Do you see the difference, or are you going to be stubborn about this?

evil doers

>.<

Having armed guards will result in increased instances of unarmed students being shot. I'm not saying I don't think that having one armed security guard isn't a good idea, but it does have pros and cons.

You're both wrong. Guns are made to destroy whatever they're pointed at.

You shouldn't need one that's the problem. Having one and saying that the school is "safe" would just be ignoring the problem which is guns in the hands of mentally unstable individuals.

Less guns = less gun related violence.

It's that simple.

There aren't shootings everyday, and if there were trained and armed citizens or police officers on scene, the shooter could have been quickly taken out. Notice these shootings always happen in places where guns aren't allowed? That's because law-abiding citizens don't want any trouble, and a homicidal/suicidal maniac that doesn't care about the law knows it's an easy target for him to inflict as much damage as possible. Once again, banning guns won't help. It will not work in the US. It couldn't even be implemented.

Firstly, the Second Amendnent insures that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Secondly, there are 260,000,000 guns and 50,000,000 gun owners (legal, by the way) in the United States. It's not possible to rid the US of guns. Who would do that? The military can't because it would be an unlawful order, and the military's oath is "To protect the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic."

Guns are not the problem. Ignorance is the problem. People are the problem.

People are the problem.

The People are the United States.

Therefore, the United States is the problem. Perhaps if the US was a bit less like the US and a bit more like Europe the problem would work itself out.

No, you made the claim that the Japanese generals would fail in their assassination attempt. That is what I was responding too. So once again do tell me more of the alternate universe.

I don't have a solution to the problem, nor does anybody else, hence why these events keep sporadically happening.

Have things really become that desperate that schools need to implement their own armed defence force? It's a disturbing thought. I'm merely trying to point out that gun violence, and your societies necessity to maintain gun ownership in the face of this violence, has become such a burden.

I'm not saying we should get rid of the guns, just that we should limit them and hopefully change the childish cultural view on them.

And I do agree that the root of the problem is the people.
But I don't think that the problem should be solved with the use of deadly force, it should be solved by improving the peoples mental health.
But with so many guns around that is a difficult thing to do.
