Ignore my gamertag. It's actually Dragonzzilla.

Do you like them or developed and malleable characters? Explain.

You mean the ones in green armor?
Or did you mean the ones on steroids who have chainsaws taped to their guns?

Characters who live, breath and eat war. The Spartans are greater examples of this than Gears. Marcus and the crew have a surprisingly deep backstory.

I don't see why the two have to be separate. There are characters who 'know nothing but war' but are also developed and malleable.

I went to Google and typed in "fat people keyboards."
All I saw pretty much was an advice column and fat jokes. :(
I do not think they make them.

lolwut

That's like saying the Spartans don't, when they both do have a fair back-story, but nothing too impressive.

It depends.

And Space Marines are a better example than Spartans. If they are not in war, they are preparing for war, deciding who they should fight next, or travelling to somewhere they can fight. And the Orks play this so straight they are a parody.

And how would one learn more about Warhammer? I don't know anything besides the tiny scrapes offered by common society.

MEDIC!

You see "The Hurt Locker"

"War is a drug"

Check out Lexicanum. A pretty good wiki on all 40k info. Or, you could grab a 40k book. There are dozens and dozens of them. Lexicanum is good for starters though.

Hey, uh, if you like vs threads, then check out this little group right here, if you have the time. It's pretty fun, just hop right in.

Seemingly everyone in Wh40k, though I don't know much about that.

Solid Snake

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Usually awful and bland. Only good one that leaps to mind is Rambo in First Blood and Rambo only.

Without The Flood, I wouldn't know what an opinion is.

I don't like 'em. I feel like most of them take themselves way too seriously(Gears of War, WH40K).

Never say you're bored. Never say you're satisfied with the world. Never stop doubting or questioning things. Always wonder. Always think. But always take time to drop your guard, you don't have to be smart all the time.

"Nothing but war" characters are usually awful in character development and are only good for being badass and cannon fodder.

  • 12.15.2012 9:52 AM PDT

Why do you say it like they can't have a personality?

Solid Snake knows nothing but war, yet he has a TON of development.

  • 12.15.2012 10:21 AM PDT

What are these first person words you speak of?

Indeed.

A decent example could be Halo 4. Chief's shell is starting to crack open.

I like the ones that have only known war, they show things from another perspective.

The whole "I was conscripted against my will and forced into a war I didn't want" is just repeated through history books.

I think Master Chief is the 1st to be kidnapped to fight humans only to end up being the savior of humanity, he is a soldier dipped into Steroids mixed with irony.

Its refreshing.

Why So Serious?

"I'm gonna go America all over everybody's asses!"
-Charlie, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Those characters have a place in any war story, but I think they fall flat as main protagonists. They're better as supporting cast.
