Hi,
Halo:CE is my faviorite game ever (so far =P.)
It was perfect in my opinion and the gameplay made the game.
You have all seen the 9 minute long 2003 E3 "realtime" video for Halo3 right. With the Jackles moving into arrowhead formation and massive Covinent tanks firing at buildings. Well I don't blame Bungie for removing that stuff because it was physicly impossible to do on the original Xbox. Now Halo2 is a great game, especially since it was made in 11 months.

Now the thing that for me ruined (to an extent) Halo2 for me, was the auto-aim which was far more apperent than Halo:CE. The only reason why Bungie added it was because of latency on Xbox LIVE for multiplayer.
But why would they add it to the single player? I mean there was no LIVE co-op in Halo2. I think that the Auto-aim should be scraped for Halo3 appart from when playing MP or LIVE co-op (not the Host.)

In Halo:CE in the PC; players aim slightly ahead of their enemys to hit then. Do Bungie think console gamers are dumb because I would prefure to aim ahead of them with far less A-A than have alot of A-A.
Also mabey those annoying 8 year olds wouldn't understand the consept and stop playing on Halo 3!

What do you think?

I think that almost every console shooter has some aim assistance because it's more difficult to aim with a controller and thumbsticks than with a mouse and a keyboard, so it would probably be stupid if Halo 3 had absolutely no aim assistance. Also, the aim assistance in Halo 2 was made primarily to help players who aren't very good at the game to be good at the game easily, and you can read this here.

a few of my m8s and myself have been arguing about the autoaim in Halo2, we do know that the autoaim in Halo:CE was minimal and for Halo2 the autoaim was strengthened, but why?

the main arguments seem to be that it was to make the game easier but I think it is also to do with latency issues over xbox Live. stronger autoaim needed to be included to make sure with people with varying latency were on a level playing field. Am I right? ?

Autoaim actually varies between weapons, and even weapon combos and while lag and connectivity were all taken into account, the main concern was enjoyable control and balance between each weapon.

I'd rather it be more like Halo 1.

My favorite game to date is the original Halo as well, so I'd rather Halo 3 take after Halo more than the second one.

This is a actually a fallacy. I don't know if Bungie claimed that's what it was there for, or fans or what - but it is easy to see that aim-assistance does NOT help compensate for latency AT ALL. There are two kinds of aim-assistance - 'sticky' reticule, where your reticule slows down over and is attracted to an enemy player, and projectile magnetism, where your projectiles actually veer off course to better hit the target. Halo 2 has some of both. Now here's the thing. These mechanisms work for you on your xbox - they apply to the enemy character model on your screen. But due to latency, the actual enemy player is not where he is on your screen - he's a fraction of a second in front. The aim-assistance has no effect on your ability to hit the guy where he actually is - only on your screen. So, auto aim does not help overcome the latency of online play in any way.

Large hitboxes DO help - by giving a wider area around the enemy player for your shots to register in, it is more likely you will still hit him even though he is a little bit further away from where you are shooting at due to latency. But I haven't heard that many people complain about the hitboxes to be honest. It's the sticky reticule and bullet magnetism that people complain about. Have they any idea how annoying it is to try and aim a grenade to where it needs to go to damage people, when your reticule is being dragged off course by those people on your screen?

You need a bit of sticky reticule to help with using a console controller, it'd be very hard to hit people otherwise. But is there now too much? I think they could tone it down a bit in Halo 3, at least some aspects of it - especially considering it doesn't do a damn thing to help with online play.
