I wish they'd've used less CGI. Overall, however, it still had those moments in it. Maybe not quite as epic as the LotR ones with the massive army/army battles, but it added a new fanfare which is just as satisfying as the LotR one. Also, I've always loved Martin Freeman. From The Office (UK) to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I've always found him to be a very natural actor and feel that much of the genius in his acting is, more than likely, adlibbed (which makes it all the better).
Overall, I don't think it deserves the criticism it's gotten and that it's unfairly being compared to the LotR trilogy when being rated rather than being rated objectively (see: Metacritic and RT scores).
The Hobbit was A) only one book and B) not as interesting as the LotR trilogy in book form, so to compare the two when reviewing it is silly and unfair.
