Break down, every single one of you.

I have made some threads similar to this in the past, but I had a conversation with my brother recently and want you opinions on this specific subject.

Some have said that they would never want to be immortal due to losing their loved ones. Now say an individual had immortality/eternal youth thrust upon them (they where not consulted about this) and now have all of eternity before them. How do you think this will affect the individual? Will the continual loss of loved ones cause insanity, depression, or simply indifference to other lives? Will this eventually lead to an amoral being or will the constant viewing of mortal strife and struggle make them more empathetic to their fellow man? Or do you believe immortality will have little to no effect on a person's morals? I am interesting to hear your thoughts and please do elaborate.

TL;DR
How do you think immortality/eternal youth would affect a persons morality?

"The hero is the one who kindles a great light in the world, who sets up blazing torches in the dark streets of life for men to see by.
The saint is the man who walks through the dark paths of the world, himself a light."

It really just depends on the person.

We all wear masks and the time comes when we cannot remove them without removing our own skin.

Depends on the person.
Loss doesn't bother me much since I'm emotionally detached.
However, an emotional person wouldn't be able to handle it and view it as a burden.

Hey, uh, if you like vs threads, then check out this little group right here, if you have the time. It's pretty fun, just hop right in.

After a while they'd lose attachment with everyone else. After living so long I'd imagine they'd want to...stop at some point, and just be done with it.

I think that immortality/eternal youth would cause a person to degrade morally and wish that they could die

It would depend on the individual...

Just like how morals work for people who are mortal.

If someone has strong ethical values and has also set a moral code for themselves, then chances are they won't violate those principals unless there were some extraordinary event that forces them to make a radical decision.

So you believe that, even with the continuous death of every one they knew and faced with the reality that everyone they will ever know and love will die, if they firmly believe in their values that they will always keep them? That they won't break down eventually, because eternity is a long time.

I think I could live my whole life with my loved one.

You're going to lose your loved ones anyway.

Remember those times when we all had something better to be doing, but didn't do it? Those were good times. Gooood times

The loss of their loved one would destroy most ties they have to the world. As time progressed, they will find it harder and harder to converse with their own species due to existing literally within a different time frame( to the immortal, years will eventually become hours or minutes due to our minds natural growth). Eventually the immortal would no longer understand the mortals around him and most likely enter a 'curiosity stage' where I predict the immortal will become engrossed in his or her own thoughts until they learn all that they could by themselves. I believe the the longing for knowledge will take over, as knowledge would be he only thing that the immortal could relate to as by this time they are thinking on a completely different level. Knowledge will eventually become their only companion.
