Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

A couple of times lately when I have been attempting to sign in to this fabulous website I have been redirected to the page for signing up. Now unless I need to get my eyes checked I am pretty sure I am hitting the right link. Unless the link to sign up is overlapping the text to sign in if that is possible?
Occasionally it will trap me in a loop where I can't sign in and it keeps redirecting me to the sign-up page with the only way of exiting the loop being to close my browser. Does anyone else get this problem and can I stop it? I am thinking maybe if someone else has logged into something using their WLID it is storing cookies from that session and B.net isn't recognizing it as being attached to an account and wanting them to sign up.

That happens to me sometimes too.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

This is kind of complicated to explain, but I'll try:

You were being sent to the "create new account" page because bungie.net detected that you didn't have an account here.

Okay, not that complicated. Basically, you were signed into a different Windows Live ID than the one you use for Bungie.net. You may not even realize you were doing it - using Windows Live Messager, Hotmail, some modes of Windows XP, Windows 8, Outlook, lots of Microsoft websites, etc. When you hit sign-in, bungie.net notices you're already signed in with a Windows Live ID, but since it hasn't seen it before, it asks you to create a new account.

One of the changes to bungie.next involve this type of issue. We'll be providing better UI for recognizing this, so you don't accidentally get lost in the bowels of Microsoft's account systems.

Hi there! be sure to click that homepage link!

Achronos, I must ask, why is it sometimes that the auto sign-in doesn't work for me occasionally when I visit bungie? As in, sometimes I visit any page on bungie.net and it says the 'sign in didn't work, try again later' and all that, but the thing is, the only way I can get back onto the site and into my account again is to fool the sit by re-registering with my e-mail and it telling me that 'that e-mail is already taken: click here to sign in' and then I click on that link and sign in normally.

I don't get it, is it some annoying glitch that I shouldn't be getting because I'm not in the U.S. or something?

I've definitely been trapped in such a loop before, and it took me a while to navigate my way out, so such changes will be most welcome indeed. I must ask though, why is Achronos on b.net at 2 in the morning?

So bungie.next is still going to use a Windows live ID?

It would seem so. I don't know how else they would help our accounts to carry over.

Without Windows Live ID, Bungie wouldn't know what your valid Xbox Live gamertag is.

True, but their next game is going to be multi-platform, that just makes me wonder what kind of system they are going to have here. I guess all we can do is wait and see..

Let Sgt. Johnson die on Halo.

My campus uses Windows Live email for our mail system, so I encounter this issue frequently when I try to log in.

An easy fix is to just browse Bnet in a browser you don't normally use. That way you don't encounter the problem since you're only making use of your Bnet WLID.

Whenever I had an issue along these lines, I always signed out of my account directly from live.com to resolve any outstanding sign-in sessions.

It seems fairly simple to me. Existing users will continue to sign in with their Windows Live accounts, new users will have the option to create an account using their email from another service. Additionally existing users will be able to add or migrate their accounts if they so choose to do so. Can't say for certain that IS what's going to happen, but it seems perfectly logical and acceptable for them to do so.
