Subject: Why is anyone surprised?

Why is anyone actually surprised? I know I'm not. As long as guns are available like they are, these things are going to continue to happen. It's inevitable. I mean, is it really such a shock that people commit these shootings when guns are as easily obtainable as they are?

Anyway, I'm not trying to push for gun laws or anything, just asking why everyone is so stunned that these things occur.

InB4 people rage at me for one reason or another.

Why are there so many gun threads all of the sudden?

People are surprised because that man killed a bunch of kids.

Kids aren't gunned down on a regular basis.

Are you actually blaming the problem on guns instead of the person's mental state? You are an idiot and fearing guns is irrational. This would have happened if guns were banned and could have easily been prevented if there weren't such harsh gun laws and a responsible citizen with a gun had been there to stop the person. A gun can just as easily be used to protect and save just as much as used irresponsibly and to kill. It's the person, not the tool. Why is it when states make gun laws more harsh gun crimes increase? Educate yourself and stop associating blame naively and incorrectly.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

Yeah... Like everyone is going to be carrying around their guns at all times.

Do you not understand that people can become mentally ill? So after they obtain their gun, easily, a few years later they can go on a killing frenzy. It doesn't work that way. Not all people would have a clue how to obtain guns illegally. Therefore, people'd be more secure.

You can't just get rid of the problem by giving people more guns. I'd hate to live in that society. Constant tension and fear.

But, the US has gone too far. It's proven effective in other countries but that's because they didn't implement the law too late.

This shooting was a little bit different. The amount of people killed was much larger than most of the other incidences on the paged you linked to. And this man had no reason to kill the kids he killed. The man didn't even belong in the school.
The man was like 20, and usually you don't go to elementary school over the age of 12.

I do, and you only should if you're comfortable with doing so, safe and responsible.

There are a lot of mentally disturbed people. And? They're dangerous no matter the circumstances and need help, simply banning guns because SOME people misuse them is irrational.

I never implied that, but taking guns away also won't help. Education and readiness is key.

Proven effective? Hardly, often times lower gun violence is associated with much higher crime rates across the board, stabbings especially. The U.S. is an exception because of our borders and horrible drug laws.

The Flood Theory of Deterioration: q(p)=(qi)e^(-p/r)

Where q(p) is the quality of the thread as a function of p posts, (qi) is the inital quality of the first post, p is the amount of posts and r is the e-peen of the original poster.

You can get guns in Canada, and several other developed countries, quite easily as well. It's not about the guns. It's about the culture and attitude towards guns.

To quote Scroobius Pip, though he was talking about knife crime in Britian it still works,

"You see, knife crime, knife crime ain't about knives
It's about young Britain and their ways of lives,
You don't solve knife crime by taking knives to hand,
You solve it by instilling new hopes and plans."

It has proven effective. Look at this list. Look at the United Kingdom and then look at the United States. And then look up the population of the United Kingdom, and then come back and tell me gun laws haven't proven effective.

Talking about Sweden is an ultrabannable offense.

Too bad being completely and utterly wrong isn't a bannable offense.

This would have happened if guns were banned
Australia hasn't had a mass shooting since gun laws were tightened.

The last one was the Port Arthur Massacre in 1996. Gun laws after that were tightened immensely.

Now go ahead and quote how much more violent Australians are using statistics and place the cause directly on the act of implementing gun control, completely ignoring every single other factor.

Did you not read my exception? They can not be compared and you're missing MANY variables.

This thread is done. I'm leaving it with this...

When D.C. and Chicago struck down harsh gun laws crime decreased, murder rates decreased and GUN CRIMES decreased.

People on this forum deny that gun laws work at all constantly. I agree, it probably wouldn't work due to many factors including its size, but something needs to be changed. It won't affect my life at all, but at least innocent people won't be dying all the time.
