"Right now it is raining methane on Titan. The planet Uranus is, hilariously, orbiting the sun sideways while Venus spins backwards. We sit here on a planet marked with collisions, rocked by earthquakes, shaken by storms. A planet doomed to be fried in radiation as its magnetic fields collapse, until the sun grows and leaves nothing of the earth but dust. Here we sit, glasses on our noses, inhalers in our pockets, braces on our teeth, and we say "Behold the perfect ORDER of it all!""

It was the most powerful system in the generation, and it had alot of great games on the system?

Why the hell did it do bad compared to the xbox and the PS2?

"Before you insult someone, try walking a mile in their shoes. This way, when you insult them, you are a mile away and have their shoes."

A sever lack of games. I mean, the games it had were amazing (pokemon C/XD, Bros, Pikmin), but it was just not popular with the developing crowd.

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

I thought it did pretty well, especially with the introduction of Super Smash Brother's Melee. Still a fun game.

Call me Stu

The Gamecube was pretty close to a financial disaster for Nintendo. Both the Xbox and PS2 outsold it by several multiples despite its library of games arguably rivaling that of the PS2. It didn't have significant third party support compared to the PS2, and it didn't have Halo 2. It's still my favorite console and has most of my favorite games on it, but it sold so few units.

True.

Eh, Xbox sold 24 million units while GameCube sold 22. PlayStation 2 has sold over 150 million units and has vastly superior game library.

Also true.

Yes sure the PS2 had more third party support, but you could easily argue that the wii didn't have great third party support (alot of third party games had very crappy, awfully controling motion controls) other than SEGA and a few other companies, but the wii did brilliantly when it comes to success.

Nintendo would be out of the console business without their handhelds making them a bank during the N64 and GameCube era. Well, mainly GC era.

Why don't we just share the hill?

It was an amazing console but it just didn't perform against the PS2 and Xbox. Most likely because of the lack of third party games. Hopefully the Wii U is an improvement in terms of third party games.

Well given the current third part games already out on the wii (Batman Arkham City and Zombii U) I can assume it will be an improvement when it comes to third party games.

GameCube also had a good third party support at launch but it diminished over time.

It's ashame, because the gamecube itself was a brilliant console.

I use a signature because I can

I'll do the same argument people have when it comes to Reach/H4 failing..."DOES SELLING 5 BILLION CONSOLES SOUND LIKE A FAIL TO YOU?" But seriously I'm not sure why it wasn't very popular.

Didn't Nintendo make a profit off of each system? How would it hurt them if that was the case?

I'd blame the lack of third-party support honestly. I could name you a bunch of great Gamecube games, but I can't really think of any big third-party exclusives besides the Resident Evil 1 remake.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

It did? What? I had so much fun with it I guess I didn't notice.

The PS2 was undoubtedly better, to be honest.

Your opinion of my opinion is wrong and is indeed quite funny. It was the weakest of the three between the N64, Gamecube, and Wii, punk.

He said close. They did make a profit but not nearly enough since GameCube was a commercial failure.

I thought the Xbox was the most powerful system of last gen.

Anyways, in units, it got outsold by the Xbox by about two million. For Nintendo to ship less consoles than MS on their first shot was not a good sign, especially considering the massive price slashes the Gamecube got.

Also, the Gamecube had a huge set of quality titles on launch, but this volume declined over time with many third party developers leaving the console. First party devs kept pumping out good games, but multiplats were typically inferior on the Gamecube.

Also, the miniDVDs that the Gamecube used had much less storage space than the regular DVDs used by the PS2 and Xbox. That was probably a huge pain for third party devs, and the reason why a lot of multiplats were significantly cut down on the Gamecube compared to the PS2 or Xbox.
