The truth often does.

Oh I'm speaking more along the lines of money-grubbing, that is what typically makes me turn my back on games.

Casualisation is a close second though, and boy did AC3 really suck..Though I guess you can see it as a playable movie.

Because as a Hardcore gamer...It is a symbol on things to come for the gaming industry.
Really? I'm far more concerned with games like AC3 and Hitman: Absolution presenting very worrying trends for the future, worlds more than CoD.

Well for one, you are on the forum of a developer that used to create Halo, a rival to CoD(at least according to the community).

I'm not saying the should like it, i'm saying they shouldn't call it bad because, in all honesty, it far from being bad. But I do see what you're getting at.

Personally, I don't care for the CoD franchise but I recognize that they're good games; just not my cup of tea.

  • 12.15.2012 7:49 AM PDT

Remember those times when we all had something better to be doing, but didn't do it? Those were good times. Gooood times

I dislike CoD as it has become a standard for modern day shooters. If CoD wasn't around, I'd expect to see a lot more innovation in the field of shooters.

  • 12.15.2012 7:51 AM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

So you blame CoD for that? Why not dislike the devs who want to adopt elements of a game that is the most popular in hopes to emulate it and gain more sales? Why would you blame the person being imitated and not the imitators?

My only problems with CoD is the terrible imbalance of weapons, making it so that only about 5% of the weapons in game are worth it, leaving the rest to be recreational weapons in which you are handicapped.

The second problem is the CoD community is the worst gaming community since WoW

  • 12.15.2012 8:00 AM PDT

Hmmm, I don't know what to say...

While I'll agree that there is sometimes a slight change from each game to the next, for the past 3 years CoD games have only changed aesthetically. The gameplay is exactly the same with the same controls, engine, and mechanics (not "Halo" same; Halo games at least have a completely different engine and mechanics each time). I should know as I have every CoD game since WaW. The graphics are not "solid" by any means - anybody who plays other games than CoD will know this. The soundtrack from World at War and Modern Warfare 2 was fantastic, but they took a step backwards for MW3 and Black Ops 2. Lastly, the gameplay mechanics are flawed beyond belief. Look how much glitching there is in each game, and how you can "no scope" someone with a .50 caliber weapon. It's the same game every year - there is no love in it. It is only a money-making machine. I actually loved World at War, Modern Warfare 2, and Black Ops 1 campaigns, but Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops 2's campaigns ruined them for me.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

Too fast kill times, better connection or whoever sees first wins.
Horrible maps.
"Sniping" is easy mode.

CoD4 was brilliant game though.

In the COD games the enemy spawning is horrible. I could go into a totally enclosed room and find no enemies. After leaving that room and walking toward the objective I would get shot by an enemy that spawned in the room that I had just found to be empty.

The guns are all basically re-skins from the previous games.

There are unreasonable amounts of scripted elements in the campaigns.

Finally the COD games prove to developers that you can rehash the same game every year and millions of people will still buy it. It also entices developers to over-simplify their games so that the COD audience would be more likely to buy them. That never works because the COD audience always goes back to COD.

Halo is a little different, you kill aliens along the way to a different goal, either that being destroying a halo or going to the ark, etc.

Cod is the same ending all the time. Go kill the terrorist. Its the same ending every time

Halo CE: Kill aliens, blow up forerunner stuff
Halo 2: Kill aliens, blow up more forerunner stuff
Halo 3: Kill aliens, blow up the biggest forerunner stuff
Halo 4: Kill aliens, go to Earth to blow up some more ancient tech

WaW: Kill people, end WWII
MW2: Kill people, terrorist gets away
BO: Kill people, but Mason was crazy
MW3: Kill people, don't F up killing terrorist this time
BO2: Multiple story paths and endings

That's some flawless argument you've got there...

your side of the halo argument was very vague to detail as it was the CoD side.

plus you never really blew up any forerunner tech in halo2. halo4 you dont go to earth till the very last mission.(matter of fact yo dont touch earth till the epilogue).

  • 12.15.2012 8:14 AM PDT

I am the God Emprah of Mankind.

Deal with it.

I could write an entire essay on while I will never touch a new CoD game again, but it's not worth my time.

You look around. You fire your weapon before you realize.
Its just me. I fall and you walk up. You cry why.
When i pop up. You look at me in wonder. I say,"ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL."
You bend to my will and go to a cliff, walk off, and fall.
The last thing you hear is me stating as fact,"All will fail the battle of life, you just went early"

Because it's boring and easy.

>No new features
>Same old unimproved graphics

>What story?
>Plethora of reskinned weapons with little diversity
>Most, if not all, of it's gameplay mechanics are horrifically unbalanced
