Subject: Should I be concerned about my mental health?

Since last tuesday, I have had a constant feeling of anxiety and depression. I am also quite irritable lately at times. However, when with a group of friends I seem fine. When with family or on my own I feel this way though. I am able to hide it from people as I hate talking about myself in that way. So, I can't stress how irritable I am feeling lately and how I am feeling down at times. I constantly have a nervous feeling in my stomache aswell.
I have been stressed the last few weeks over a mixture of petty teenage stuff and world issues that I enjoy looking in to, but I've figured how daft that is and yet only now I feel this way. I've felt this way before, but I haven't felt this bad for this long before.

Anyway, I don't like talking to people about this sort of thing, so that's why I'm asking you Flood. Do you have any idea what is wrong and what should I do?

EDIT: I'm only 15 and so I wouldn't be suprised if this does end up being normal. It's just that everyother teenager I see going through problems all complain and shout at people, whereas I do not. I hate making a scene as I can't help but feel stupid.

ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY CHROME.

How old are you?

  • 12.15.2012 7:06 AM PDT

in·dif·fer·ence
the fact or state of being indifferent; lack of care or concern and empathy demonstrated by an absence of emotional reactions.

At least you haven't had depression for your whole life.

Sounds like me, it's most likely because we're teenagers.

I have a tendancy of getting wound up about bad world events and I'm currently a little confused with 'girl issues', but I have been for like two years so I don't know why I feel this way now.

Two movies you should watch: Fight Club and Pineapple Express

"Wait. What do you mean, it's dead?"
"If marijuana is not legal within the next five years I have no faith left in humanity, period. Everyone likes smoking weed. They have for thousands of years. They're not going to stop anytime soon. You know? It makes everything better. Makes food taste better, makes music better. It makes sex feel better for God's sake. It makes -blam!- movies better you know?"

Now try be depressed for years(don't really do this). Try and change your mindset. It's better to happy or angry than to be depressed. Also try to do different things. Maybe punch something.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

What the -blam!- is wrong with you people? Like half of the flood seems to be depressed, having their teenage angst or otherwise being mentally flipped.

I don't mean to be mean, but how do you manage to do that? My lifes been brilliant as long as I can remember, few girl troubles when I was a teenager but I didn't get depressed or mentally scarred over it.

You do have a disorder.
Being a teenager in this society.

seriously though, if you feel like there might be something to check out, check with an actual psychologist, not a forum comprised primarily of unknowledgeable teens.

Sounds like some people are more affected from these relationship issues. But I too don't know why the amount of depressed teenagers have risen so much recently.

I suppose my only extremely helpful advice is to take it easy. Have a day off, read a book in the sun, run over small pets. Note I am not responsible for anything you might do.

But it isn't only with teenagers, every time someone posts a thread about their life being bad, it seems like people almost compete who is the most depressed and having the worst life.
Same thing with "How good is your life?" threads, it's kind of sad to read how many people here aren't happy with their lives.

Because for every person who complains, there's guaranteed to be someone else who would be happy with that life. I know for a fact I'm worse off than most people, but unless they keep going on about how much their life sucks because their parents won't buy them the latest gadget or a car or because they don't have the balls to ask a girl out, I won't compete.

Truth is, the main demographic of this site is between ages 13 and 19. That's a lot of people still going through a hormonal rollercoaster, and likely have nobody else to talk about it with.

How did I know someone would come in here and say "I'm worse off than anyone else here!" Why is it a constant dick length contest on these boards? And especially over stupid things. Things like, "my life is worse" or "I'm more depressed" etc. aren't something to brag about.

What the kid's going through is normal. This shouldn't be about depression, or a few -blam!- events someone endured, it's about the OP asking a question.

Although I will agree with you on the first bit about other people wanting the life the other will complain about.
