I wonder if this idea is any good.
You know how in the military, people can control drones from thousands of miles away?

If it's possible, we can install that sort of technology on major airlines and flights so that if hijackers attempted to hijack the plane and are about to succeed, the pilots can activate a switch and lose control of their plane [which can be re-engage by typing in a password or something of that sort to regain control of the plane].

By doing that, no matter if the hijackers get in the cockpit, they have no power to fly the plane unless they know the password to do so.

When the switch is activated, someone on duty will control the plane from miles away just like he does with a drone.

I am not sure if that is even possible, it's just a thought I had. What do you think?

I like how your sub box is full of science and political videos but your recommendations are full of anime girls kissing each other.

Why not just get rid of pilots and solely use drone tech?

But which end would have priority control? What happens if terrorists infiltrate the remote control location and override the pilots' controls?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Better idea, just fly the plane into the ground.

Everyone dies, but the important thing is that it wasn't hijacked.

Here's a question for ya, what if in response the highjackers kill all the passengers? Usually the intent of a highjacker is to cause harm to people, and in not being able to dick all with the plane, they might just take the next best thing up in line.

Link or it didn't happen.

Latency. Drones don't need to be concerned with it because it's a lot smaller and easier to control, but flying a B-747 remotely is a disaster waiting to happen.

Inappropriate. Went a little to far with the butt hole tearing.

I think the plane should just auto-shutoff.

you do realize the plane has people in it?

iPhone 4S 64GB Black.

The hijackers would just kill everyone then. Perhaps pilots' uniforms should protect from bullets/knifes? And perhaps pilots could be armed?

Firearms in a compressed cabin? Very bad idea. VERY bad idea.

That is actually a pretty damn good idea.

It's hard to see it implemented though. Maybe later, when we get more comfortable and more advanced with automated systems and robotics.

Prevents them from flying it into some buildings.

This was considered, most of them didn't want it. I think it's a good idea though.

Airport security is the one thing that Israel does right.

Pilots are already armed. They started arming pilots with handguns and training them to use them after 9/11

A good idea in theory, but like Wyldfyre said, hostage situations would most likely occur...

  • 12.15.2012 12:20 PM PDT

To the people saying that it would simply turn into a hostage situation: Would you rather a terrorist take control of the plane and crash it where ever they want killing everyone on the plane and people on the ground or the terrorists taking people hostage which would still allow them a chance for survival?

If people were taken hostage, a number of them could still live, people on the ground would survive, and the hostages may even have a chance to fight back.
