It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Once again, Fox news proves it's overwhelming capacity to lay blame for shootings and other tragedies on seemingly unrelated causes.

Via Kotaku:
We have yet to hear all the details on today's horrific shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, which claimed the lives of 27 people this morning. News is still trickling in as we learn about what happened, how it happened, and why it happened.

But Fox News is already bringing in experts to link the massacre to reality TV, Facebook, and... computer games. Of course.

I'd like someone to make a tally of how many times this has happened.

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

Really? I was sure they were going to try to link the shooter to Obama.

Three or four times so far, I believe.

  • 12.15.2012 11:28 AM PDT

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I wanna be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

Are these the same "experts" who accused an innocent man of the shootings?

Video games desensitize us to violence. It's not like they're incredibly wrong.

The same could be said for movies, TV or Comics. A man who goes out and kills, no matter who or how many, wasn't right in the head to begin with, regardless of whether or not he played videogames.

Or indeed, read comics or watched TV. They have no bearing on his actions, as his actions are his alone.

So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

Yes, but games also give us a way to exert our frustration and stress.

Fox News blamed video games again?

This just in, gravity pulls objects down. More at 11 here at FUBAR News.

You look around. You fire your weapon before you realize.
Its just me. I fall and you walk up. You cry why.
When i pop up. You look at me in wonder. I say,"ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL."
You bend to my will and go to a cliff, walk off, and fall.
The last thing you hear is me stating as fact,"All will fail the battle of life, you just went early"

By "experts" I assume they mean homeless people.

Quite possibly. I personally clicked so I could just read what was said and plant my face firmly on my desk.

everything/anything can be compared to sand on a beach

i like how ppl wanna dog on FOX, when just about every news station blames these kinda things on video games(mass murder, anger issues, rage, etc)

  • 12.15.2012 11:36 AM PDT

Sometimes I am tempted to quit gaming. I can no longer play without seeing ponyphags, horrendously bad teammates and mexicans.

Gaming community, I want you to know that you suck.

Correlation does not equal causation. In the hands of someone unstable, yes I can see games, movies, etc being a factor...but that person was unstable. The vast majority of gamers are not unstable and fully comprehend reality from fantasy.

Key

Fox News viewers are consistently shown to be the least informed of regular viewers of any other TV Media outlet. This sort of thing is the exact reason why.

Not saying he isn't responsible, but there are driving forces behind it. Yeah, movies and comics are violent, but in video games you actually take part in the violence. You're literally rewarded for killing. So that says a lot about how our society is playing out. Among other things.

You're also rewarded for saving the lives of people in games. Under your logic is that not any more valid than killing?

I repeat myself, if someone can't tell the difference between reality and virtual, they have problems far beyond playing a violent videogame. Videogames may make us more accustomed to violence, but they are no more real and desensitize us no more than TV or movies. The reward comes from doing well in the game, not from the killings themselves.

If anything, it's been proven that gaming can provide an outlet for anger.

  • 12.15.2012 11:38 AM PDT

I hate Fox. Violence has been around since the beggining of time. If anything else video games are making less violence because it gives people a way to channel their anger. Unless you're raging over multiplayer, even then that wouldn't make someone kill someone else, especilly an elementary school.
