Video games desensitize us to violence. It's not like they're incredibly wrong.
The same could be said for movies, TV or Comics. A man who goes out and kills, no matter who or how many, wasn't right in the head to begin with, regardless of whether or not he played videogames.
Or indeed, read comics or watched TV. They have no bearing on his actions, as his actions are his alone.
Not saying he isn't responsible, but there are driving forces behind it. Yeah, movies and comics are violent, but in video games you actually take part in the violence. You're literally rewarded for killing. So that says a lot about how our society is playing out. Among other things.
You're also rewarded for saving the lives of people in games. Under your logic is that not any more valid than killing?
I repeat myself, if someone can't tell the difference between reality and virtual, they have problems far beyond playing a violent videogame. Videogames may make us more accustomed to violence, but they are no more real and desensitize us no more than TV or movies. The reward comes from doing well in the game, not from the killings themselves.
If anything, it's been proven that gaming can provide an outlet for anger.
